Choosing the best Lost Arc class is difficult, especially since there are at least five main classes and fifteen advanced classes. Since you have to pick your advanced class very early in the game, it doesn’t hurt to take a good look at the different playstyles.
Of course, the best class in Lost Ark is the class that suits you best. If you like supporting characters more than a DPS, Paladin earns it from Berserker. Just the opposite if your goal is to smash everyone and everything in range.
Here is an overview of each advanced class, broken down by major category. Let’s find the best Lost Ark class for you!
What class is played in Lost Ark?
Choosing the best class for your personal playstyle is easier said than done, as this MMO doesn’t follow the classic DPS, Tank, and Healer distinction too closely. Almost every class has a DPS base, followed by varying degrees of support abilities. It’s a little harder to master as a result, but that also means you can be on your own in a solo battle.
Note that the Lost Ark classes are gender-locked, which means a Warrior is always male and an Assassin is always female. And although some classes, such as Gunner, initially allow both male and female characters, the advanced classes are again divided into male (Sharpshooter, Deadeye, and Artillerist) and female (Gunslinger). We’ll talk about class genders below, as this may affect your final choice.
Warrior – best class for melee/hybrid DPS
Wild (Male)
If you want to play as a simple melee damage dealer with a large great sword, the Berserker class is your best bet. It’s a little slow, but it will land some of the most devastating blows in the game, especially after you go crazy. You can easily charge this ‘Burst Mode’ by attacking your opponents.
Paladin (Male)
The Paladin is one of the two support-focused classes in Lost Ark. He makes up for his lack of offensive power with attack buffs and healing abilities. On top of that, the Paladin has good range and is pretty hard to kill. Of course, buffs and healing skills take a bit more work than normal attacks, but this is still a great beginner’s class. It’s worth it if you want to be a popular teammate.
Musketeer (Male)
If you’re looking for the closest thing to a conventional tank, look no further than the Gunlancer class. Despite his low attack power and mobility, the Gunslinger operates in a wide area of effect, can protect himself and his team, and is capable of teasing enemies. He can also use a handy meathook to lure his opponents closer (this is a nice solution for mobility issues). All this makes it one of the best classes in Lost Ark.
Martial Artist – best class for fast melee combat
Striker (Male)
Guard (Female)
Other than their gender, Striker and Wardancer are quite similar. Both are fast street fighter-like classes equipped with light gloves. They also share the same special ability called ‘Esoteric Gauge’ which gives access to extra powerful skills. If you don’t have a choice yet, consider the following differences before making your final choice: Guardian Dancer is incredibly fast and has a few support buffs, while Striker deals slightly better damage and has a larger radius of effect.
Scraper (Female)
If you’re looking for a more robust and arguably easier Martial Artist class, you might want to go for Scrapper. The dual energy system can be a little tricky (using Stamina or Shock abilities increases the other counter), but it’s more of a planning issue. Once you find a good rank for your skills, Scrapper is a truly versatile melee class. Just keep in mind that by ‘melee’ we really mean melee. Get close to your enemies.
Soulfist (Female)
If you’re unsure of the limited range offered by other Martial Artist classes, choose Soulfist instead. This Lost Ark class has a little bit of everything, so it’s a great option if you don’t want to specialize. It’s also a great choice if you’re interested in destroying objects with colored light beams. Still, here’s the thing: This class is both loved and hated for its extremely harmful ‘soul bomb’. It takes a long time to charge and if you hit it (preferably as a critical strike), it’s the most devastating attack in the game. If you don’t… Well, we’ll understand if you’re a little frustrated.
Assassin – best class for melee DPS
Deathblade (Female)
Let’s start with some (potentially) disappointing news: None of the classes available are a traditional assassin class complete with invisibility skills and teleportation. Instead, you get a really angry looking swordsman with high mobility, high attack and pretty good range. Deathblade is a great class for all types of players, including newbies. Defense is good enough to resist the ‘glass canon’ tag here, but you need to be prepared to go in and out of battle.
Shadowhunter (Female)
The Shadowhunter can transform into a demon, which means bonus points for sharpness. Thanks to this special case, the Shadowhunter is somewhat similar to the Berserker. Not everyone is a fan, though, because either they don’t like the demon state or they don’t want to be without it. Then again, you can focus on the demon state’s runtime as much as you want in your final build.
Shooter – best-in-class for ranged DPS
Sniper (Male)
The Sniper can summon a familiar Silverhawk to assist you in battle. If that alone isn’t reason enough to choose it, you may want to choose this Gunner breed if you like the traditional ranger class. The Sniper has good mobility, sufficient attack power and a large number of arrows. Honestly, this bird isn’t the best helper ever (mainly it does some damage over time), but this is arguably the best of the Gunner class, if not the easiest in Lost Ark.
Deadeye (Male)
Musketeer (Female)
The Gunslinger and Deadeye classes are all about high damage and mobility. Apart from their genders, the main difference is that Deadeye deals a little more damage and Gunslinger is more evasive. However, if you discuss these lessons with other Lost Ark players, you’ll probably hear the term “glass canon” a lot. While Deadeye and Gunslinger can be truly devastating in the right hands, they can be easily killed (especially Deadeye). If a challenge isn’t what you’re looking for, it’s best to skip them if you’re new to Lost Ark.
Artillery (Male)
If you’re into large flamethrowers and rocket launchers, the Artillerist class is an excellent choice. Yes, it’s very slow compared to its armed counterparts, but it can be very satisfying to wipe a group of enemies off the map with a well-timed explosion. Then again, it’s frustrating when you miss. While Artillery isn’t a great option for new players for this reason, keep in mind the unique playstyle for your alternate characters.
Mage – best in class for support or ranged DPS
Ozan (Female)
Often considered the best class in Lost Ark, Bard is a true master of support. He can heal the team, protect the team, strengthen the team and weaken the enemy. If aesthetics are important to you, also take a look at Bard’s music-themed skills. What’s not to love? Naturally, his attack power is low, but you’ll always find a party if you need it.
Sorceress)
If you think Bard’s skills look good, you should see the Mage. If you’re into visual effects, you’ll probably like the look of meteor showers and lightning strikes. Other than that, this is a very powerful ranged damage dealer. It’s not the best choice for new players though, as the Sorcerer can get overwhelmed easily, especially since he only has one ability with a cooldown of less than ten seconds.
Did you find your perfect class? Have fun slashing, dodging and shooting the Lost Ark!
