Remove WordPress Copyright Footer By Editing Footer.php

To access your theme’s footer.php file, you need to connect to your website using a file manager. Then go to public_html/wp-content/themes/the_name_of_your_theme/footer.

In our case, since we’re using the Twenty Twenty theme as an example, the path to the file looks like this:

public_html/wp-content/themes/twentytwenty/footer

Alternatively, you can choose Appearance > Theme Editor and choose Theme Footer from the list of theme files on the right side of the screen.

Next, find the text “Powered by WordPress” and delete it from the file, starting with the div tag:

Update the footer.php file and you will no longer see the copyright disclaimer on your site.

Remove WordPress Copyright Footer Using Theme Customizer

This unlink method will not work in Twenty Twenty, but can be applied to various other WordPress themes.

From your admin dashboard, navigate to: Appearance > Customize. You can disable the footer disclaimer by accessing one of the following options: Footer/Footer Area/Site ID/Copyright Area, and delete the copyright link from the designated domain. Once again, this method will not work in all themes, in which case you will have to remove the link via code.
