You must have experienced a pause for no reason while streaming on Spotify. Some users complain that Spotify keeps pausing music on iPhone, Android phone or Windows PC. Pressing the play button repeatedly to continue kills the fun. Let’s discover how we can find the fix for your Windows PC and phone.
This is not a major issue. The solutions themselves are pretty easy to follow. However, we advise you to check all the solutions before trying them one by one. You should get right back to streaming songs/podcasts on Spotify.
I’m assuming you have a stable internet connection and are not facing any network issues. If Wi-Fi isn’t working, try mobile data instead. Listen to your previously saved offline playlist while we help you fix it.
Let’s start.
1. Using Spotify on Multiple Devices?
Signed into Spotify from multiple devices with the same account? You cannot stream different content from Spotify on two devices at the same time using the same account. This will confuse Spotify and pause the stream.
One of your family members who has access to the other device may also be using Spotify at the same time as you. Make sure this is not the case.
2. Sign Out of Spotify and Sign In Again
This is a simple step. Whatever platform/device you are using the Spotify app on, click your profile picture and click the Sign Out button. Wait a few minutes and then sign in again. Check again if Spotify is working properly now.
3. Sign Out of Spotify Anywhere
You must sign out of all devices you are logged into using the same Spotify account. This can help fix various issues, including the issue where Spotify pauses music.
Stage 1: Go to the Spotify site and sign in using your login credentials. This method does not work in mobile or desktop apps.
Step 2: Click on your profile picture and select Account.
Stage 3: Under the account overview, click the Sign Out Anywhere button and wait for the page to reload.
You will need to sign in again on all other devices like mobile and desktop. Try playing something and note if Spotify continues to automatically pause the stream.
4. Clear Cache and Data
As we know, old corrupt data can mess things up in the background leading to inconsistencies in the app experience. We have already covered how to clear cache and data for any app on Android smartphones and Windows 10. Are you using Spotify in a browser? You can and should also clear cache and cookies in Chrome to check if it is causing the error.
There is no way to access or clear cache data on iPhones before you can reinstall them directly.
For Windows users, I suggest you clean up the temporary files as shown in the point directly above and then use Recuva to completely remove Spotify. Otherwise, it will leave a lot of junk or leftover files that we don’t want.
5. Battery Saver
Battery saver mode on your phone may be responsible for Spotify pausing music. More importantly, it will pause the music when you turn off the screen or lock your phone.
Stage 1: Open Settings > Apps > Spotify and tap on Battery. Make sure the Allow background activity option is turned on.
Android now knows better and won’t kill Spotify or force pause activity when you lock the screen.
6. Background Data Usage
Another setting similar to how battery saver works on Android, but is responsible for restricting data usage in the background.
Stage 1: Open Settings > Apps > Spotify and tap on Mobile data. Make sure that Allow background data usage is turned on.
And while you’re here, you can also enable the ‘Allow app when data saver is on’ option.
7. Reinstall Spotify
You can always resort to a clean reinstall of the Spotify app on your phone or computer. There are several ways to do this and they depend on where you use Spotify. If you are an Android user, clear Spotify cache and data to get rid of corrupted files and then uninstall and reinstall from Play Store. And iPhone users certainly know about the drill.
