What would you do if your Windows 10 laptop suddenly shut down without any warning or notification? And it won’t start even if you try to turn on your laptop. Then you may notice that it doesn’t have enough battery power and you missed the low battery notification. Did you do? The only way to verify this is to have the notification work to remind you of the battery status. This post will help you fix the issue when the low battery notification not working in Windows 10.
If it makes you feel better, you’re not alone. Many other Windows 10 users faced the same issue with the laptop shutting down before giving the battery low notification. For many users, their laptops shut down 30-40%. Wondering how to fix low battery notification missing issue? Read on for the answer.
Lets start.
1. Set Low Battery Notification
You need to check if the low battery notification is enabled on your PC. Here are the steps:
Stage 1: Open Control Panel using Explorer or Settings.
step 2: Click Power Options in Control Panel.
Fly: You can access the Power Options screen from Windows 10 Settings > Power and sleep > Additional power settings. Alternatively, right-click the Battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
Stage 3: Click Change plan settings next to the selected plan.
Step 4: Click on Change advanced power settings.
Step 5: The Power Options popup will open. Expand the battery section. Here you will find various battery related options that you should check and adjust according to your preference.
Step 6: Start by expanding the low battery notification. Now make sure it says On next to both ‘On Battery’ and ‘Plugged in’. If it says Off, click on it and select On from the dropdown box. Click Apply to save the changes.
Step 7: Now expand Low battery and check percentage. If it is too low, increase it to at least 15% to 25%. Click Apply.
Step 8: Similarly, expand the Low battery action. Select Do nothing for the two options. This will prevent your PC from shutting down, sleeping or hibernating as soon as your battery reaches the low threshold.
Step 9: Repeat steps 6-9 for the critical battery. That is, enable its notification and set the critical battery level (it should be less than low battery). Also, set the Critical battery action to Hibernate instead of Shutdown, making sure you don’t lose your Unsaved work. Click Apply.
If your Windows 10 PC shuts down instead of going to sleep or hibernating, check out our guide.
Note: Make sure you don’t keep the critical battery level higher than Low battery.
Step 10: Finally, expand the Backup battery level. Make sure the levels shown are less than those set in Low battery. You can keep the backup battery level between Low and Critical.
Step 11: Restart the computer. Once it restarts, you should wait to check if your laptop is sending a low battery notification.
Fly: If you keep switching between them, repeat the above steps for all power plans.
2. Change Battery Saver Percentage
The battery saver mode on your Windows 10 may also be blocking the low battery warning. Typically, Battery saver is set to be enabled at 20% battery level. If your Low Battery notification is set to less than 20% in method 1, you may not receive the notification. This is because Battery saver, which restricts certain notifications, is enabled at 20%.
You can lower the battery percentage to save Battery by going to Windows 10 Settings > System > Battery. Change the percentage under ‘Automatically turn on battery saver at’. Alternatively, keep the Low Battery notification higher than 20% in method 1.
Fly: Battery saver can also be activated manually. Check if it is disabled.
3. Enable Windows 10 Notifications
Stage 1: Open Settings on your Windows 10 PC. Use the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut to open the settings.
step 2Go to : System > Notifications & actions.
Stage 3: Enable the switch next to Security and Maintenance under ‘Receive notifications from these senders’.
4. Troubleshoot Power Issues
You should use the built-in troubleshooter to detect battery notification related issues. To do this, go to Windows 10 Settings > Update & security. Click Troubleshoot from the left sidebar. Under Troubleshooting, click Additional troubleshooters.
Click Power and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the troubleshooting.
5. Restore Default Power Settings
You may have accidentally changed a power setting that could conflict with the low battery notification. So you can always revert the changes you have made to the power settings to their default values. For this, right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar. Select Power options. As mentioned in Method 1, you can open Power Options from Control Panel and Windows 10 Settings.
On the power options screen, click Change plan settings next to your plan.
Click Restore default settings for this plan.
Fly: Find out what autolock is and how to enable or disable it in Windows 10.
View Remaining Battery
We expect one of the above solutions will fix the low battery notification missing issue on your Windows 10 laptop. When all is well, enable the remaining battery percentage in the taskbar. This will help you keep track of the battery level on your PC.
Next: When customizing low and critical battery levels, you should also customize your Windows 10 laptop’s lid closing action. Learn how to do this at the next link.
