Microsoft claims that Windows 11 brings enhanced gaming experience. Early adopters are stunned by the gaming performance in Windows 11. However, there are ways to improve the gaming experience on your Windows 11 PC.
1. Disable Pointer Sensitivity Enhancement
Most gaming mice come with mouse acceleration disabled in software. Windows 11 may have reactivated. Enhance pointer precision makes sense to use on a laptop where you want to leave the trackpad down for a while.
It’s worth disabling the option in the desktop game setup. Here’s how.
Stage 1: Press the Windows key and search for Mouse. Open the Mouse Settings menu.
Step 2: Select additional mouse settings from the corresponding settings menu.

Stage 3: Go to the Pointer Options menu.
Step 4: Disable Improve pointer precision.

2. Enable Game Mode
Game mode used to be ineffective, but Microsoft has worked hard on this feature and improved it by a pretty big margin.
When you enable Game Mode, Windows prioritizes the gaming experience on the PC by disabling background tasks, Windows update services, driver installation, and more. The system ensures that you have all the CPU and GPU resources to enjoy a smooth gaming experience.
The goal is to offer a constant framerate depending on the game and the system.
Stage 1: In Windows 11, open the Settings app (use Windows + I keys).
Step 2: Select Game from the left sidebar.

Stage 3: Go to game mode and enable the toggle from the menu below.
3. Prioritize GPU in Certain Games
Most modern desktop CPUs come with a built-in GPU which is good enough for light gaming. With a dedicated GPU from NVIDIA, you can always scale and enjoy high-end games.
Following the Windows 11 update, you have the option to assign a specific GPU per application. This may not make sense for desktop rigs with a single graphics card as there is a GPU that can be selected in High Performance and Power Saver modes.
It makes sense on gaming laptops with discrete GPUs or in a desktop setup for high-end gaming. You can task it to launch a particular game with the integrated GPU for battery saving or a dedicated GPU to provide raw power from the start.
Stage 1: Press the Windows key and search for Graphics.
Step 2: Press Enter and open the Graphics Settings menu.
Stage 3: Select a game and click Options.

Step 4: Select the GPU option you want to use in the game and hit Save.

4. Disable Recording What Happens
Powerful gamers will likely use driver-based capture/record settings from AMD or NVIDIA. Let’s disable the default Windows one.
Stage 1: Open the Windows Settings app.
Step 2: Go to Game and select Captures.

Stage 3: Disable the save what happens option.

If you plan to use the default Windows way to capture the winning moments, you should also change the video frame rate and quality.
To record the video, use standard video quality instead of 30fps and High quality instead of 60fps from the same menu.

You may see quality degradation in recorded content, but this does not affect game performance while recording.
5. Disable Startup Apps
This is a classic trick for improving overall Windows 11 performance. If too many apps and services are starting at startup, you should disable the behavior from the Settings menu.
Stage 1: Open Windows Settings and go to the Applications menu.
Step 2: Select Apps & features and scroll down to Getting Started.

Stage 3: Disable irrelevant apps and services that start during the login process.

6. Enable High Performance from the Power Plan
Windows allows you to enable the High performance plan, which supports performance with more energy. This option helps you improve the gaming experience on Windows 11. Here’s how to enable it.
Stage 1: Press the Windows key and search for Edit Power Plan.
Step 2: Press Enter and it will open Power Options.
Stage 3: Click on the Power option at the top.

Step 4: Expand Show additional plans and enable High performance from the drop-down menu.

7. Update Graphics Drivers
Gaming with outdated graphics drivers? You may want to update the graphics drivers from the Device Manager menu.
Press the Windows key and look for the Device Manager menu. Open it and go to Processors. Right click on the graphics driver and update it to the latest version.

8. Update Windows 11 Operating System
Many pointed out in their Windows 11 reviews that Microsoft’s latest operating system is still a work in progress. The company is working hard to fix some of the initial glitches. For example, AMD processors did not play well with early Windows 11 builds.
Microsoft fixed these issues with operating system updates. To install the latest operating system on your computer, go to Windows Settings and select Windows Update.
Enjoy Flawless Gaming on Windows 11
Due to the below-average gaming experience on Windows 11, you may be tempted to revert to Windows 10 on your PC or gaming laptop. Before doing that, you can follow the tips above and see if the improved game performance meets your expectations.
