YouTube undergoes radical cleanup: millions of old videos will be removed from the platform

There have been rumors recently that Google is preparing to delete several old videos from YouTube. The American multinational is one of the largest companies on the planet and has the power to delete millions of pieces of data whenever it deems necessary.

After all, although not all of its projects have been a resounding success, the company has been at the center of the internet for decades and its reach is enormous, in addition to the fact that it holds many pillars and technological resources around the world.

According to reports, Google is preparing to eliminate accounts that have been inactive for the past two years. In other words, if Google considers it worthwhile to delete an inactive account with no content, it can do so.

But it won’t just be YouTube videos that will be deleted in these cases. All space and content created by the account in other Google Workspace tools, such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, YouTube and Google Photos will also be deleted.

The deletions will begin from December 2023 and all users will be notified well in advance via emails and notifications.

According to reports, the company will begin the process in phases, starting with accounts that were created and never used again after the moment of their creation.

How to avoid losing your Google account?

For users with inactive accounts who do not want to be affected by this situation, the tip is to log in to your account, watch a video on YouTube, send an email and do a Google search while logged in. This way, your account will go to status account active again.

It is likely that content from people who have already passed away or who have lost their account logins will end up being removed from the platforms, since the account will not be able to be reactivated. In other words, YouTube will lose some of its content anyway, whether large or small.

The purpose of account removal is to prevent inactive accounts from being used for fraud/phishing, as they are the most likely to be compromised and hacked. Even so, the topic has generated controversy, mainly due to beloved old YouTube videos.
