University is a pioneer with higher education focused on AI in Brazil

The study of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education plays a crucial role in preparing professionals to face challenges and explore opportunities offered by this constantly evolving area.

With the rapid advancement of technology, AI has emerged as one of the most promising and impactful disciplines in various sectors, including computer science, medicine, finance and others.

Therefore, it is essential that universities are at the forefront of this field, providing up-to-date and comprehensive study programs.

In Brazil, the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) takes a pioneering position by offering, since 2020, the first AI course in Brazilian higher education.

This initiative not only reflects recognition of the growing importance of AI, but also meets the growing demand for qualified professionals in the field.

By making vacancies available through the Unified Selection System (Sisu), the university democratizes access to this knowledge, providing opportunities for training in one of the most strategic areas today.

The importance of higher education in artificial intelligence

According to Anderson Soares, professor of artificial intelligence at UFG and a PhD in Electronic and Computer Engineering, the shortage of qualified labor in the area is a global challenge.

Brazil is lagging behind compared to more than 30 countries that have already adopted government initiatives to promote the use and development of artificial intelligence.

He highlights that changes in society will be rapid, with more than 7 million Brazilians needing retraining in the next three years, according to IBM research.

Soares emphasizes that professionals specializing in AI used to have doctoral training due to the long-term nature of research in the area.

Since 2012, there has been significant progress with new applications of technology, which has made more generalist training necessary.

Despite the existence of postgraduate and short-term online courses, the professor argues that the complexity of the area will require capable leaders to deal with transformations technological.
