The second and last Supermoon of the year, also called the Blue Moon because it is the second Full Moon of the month, is about to happen. This occurs due to its cycle, which can repeat one of the phases in the same month. The first occurred at the beginning of August.
Now, in the final stretch of the month, the Moon will be at the closest point to Earth that its orbit can reach, which is called perigee in astronomy, making it bigger and brighter.

The phenomenon will occur next Wednesday, August 30th, when the Moon marks a distance of 357.3 thousand kilometers from our planet, being around 15% brighter and 7% larger in our perception.
How does the event take place and when can we see it?
Firstly, it is important to understand the processes of the Moon’s orbit around the Earth. It is known that, during its 27.3-day cycle, the natural satellite goes through four phases: new, growing, full and waning.
A Supermoon, in turn, occurs when the Moon approaches our planet at the closest points of its elliptical (oval) orbit. The visible increase between the farthest and closest point is about 14% of its magnitude.
According to Brazilian astronomer Josina Nascimento, from the National Observatory, a unit of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the event can be seen all over the planet, and in Brazil it will take place at 10:35 pm (Brasília time) on the 30th, there may be differences in times depending on the country’s time zones.
