500,000 free TVs! Startup Telly plans to give away free TVs later this year

Television is one of the devices that is most present in people’s daily lives. With the advancement of technology, new options have been launched on the market to please the public.

Whether it’s for watching sports, playing video games or watching soap operas, movies and series, we all want a modern, quality TV, but as we know, these appliances are very expensive.

However, it seems that a startup is willing to solve this problem, and it is not through exclusive discounts or attracting the attention of customers, but rather by giving away televisions completely free of charge, or almost. The price to be paid is not in money and may seem small to some, or even too strange to others.

Startup offers 500,000 free TVs with advertising screens

Telly TV company, owned by PlutoTV founder Ilya Pozin, plans to distribute around 500,000 55-inch TVs for free this year, 2023, alone.

However, they all come with a second screen, which can be placed below the device, where advertisements and other information will be shown at all times.

This screen will be attached to the main screen, which has 4K resolution, one of the best on the market. The monitor will be able to display information such as weather forecasts, game results and even stock market quotes.

In one corner, there will be advertisements for sponsors who are willing to pay for a glimpse.

To avoid disturbing viewers, the screen will have an option to reduce brightness when a film or series starts.

However, the device will continue to display advertisements even when the main TV is not in use. In addition, between the two devices, there will be a “soundbar” with a camera that can be closed.

The startup intends to distribute dongles with the Android system so that users can install the applications they want, since the devices are not smart TVs.

Telly, in addition to earning from advertising revenue, may also sell user information and data to commercial companies.

By monitoring your browsing activities, the TV can even record your access time and then pass this data on to companies.

There is an option for the user to keep their data private, however, they will have to pay around R$3,000 for this.

The company’s founder argues that they are “very direct and transparent” and that “everyone knows what the exchange value involved is.”

How to receive TV?

The giveaway will only take place in the United States. To win this appliance, there will be a waiting list that participants can enter after answering personal questions with information that can help establish the correct ads to be displayed on the screens.
