Many years ago, when we thought about the future and what awaited us in 2023, for example, we imagined some situations involving flying cars, for example.

Now, living in this era, we realize that, although technology has advanced a lot since its beginnings, but that, in fact, flying cars are out of the question for now.

However, last Monday (19/6), the startup Eve Air Mobility, backed by Embraer, announced what was dubbed a “flying taxi”.

This rather curious technology aims to revolutionize air transport, and the original name of the new launch is eVTOLhaving been presented during the 54th Paris Air Show, in France.

The technology is the result of a collaboration with Blade Air Mobility, it is electric, silent, does not emit pollutants and promises to offer affordable costs.

And it doesn’t stop there, as companies want to continue developing practical applications and continuing advanced air mobility.

Furthermore, they intend to establish bases for integrating eVTOLs into state-of-the-art electric and vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

The project will begin operating on future routes in France and other European countries that can support the model. Mobilizing industry and building sustainable infrastructure are the main objectives of the new project, in addition to the desire to make electric aviation viable and popular.

Andre Stein, co-CEO of Eve, spoke a little more about the new launch:

“By combining expertise and resources, we are committed to expanding advanced air mobility with innovative solutions that make travel more accessible for passengers while also driving significant improvements for the environment,” he said.

When will the eVTOL be delivered?

The first eVTOL prototype is scheduled to be assembled in the second half of 2023, and the first test flights are expected to take place throughout 2024. In addition, EVE aims to put its eVTOL into service in 2026.

“Our shared vision of a safer, quieter and more sustainable future for air travel is the driving force behind this collaboration. The introduction of Eve aircraft into our European network will mark a key step towards realizing this goal,” said Rob Wiesenthal, CEO of Blade.

India was the location chosen by the companies to sign a contract to deploy up to 200 eVTOLs in the country.

In addition, Monacair, Héli Sécurité and Azur Hélicoptère, also known as the three largest urban air mobility operators in Southern Europe, had their charter and scheduled flight operations purchased by Blade.

The previous year, the company also demonstrated intentions for operations in the United States, providing up to 60 eVTOLs annually.

Aircraft development in Europe can only be carried out after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals and certifications, in addition to the signing of a definitive agreement between all parties.
