At many times throughout the day, we may experience episodes of stress. Some signs may go unnoticed in the face of the activities carried out. However, one of them was recently studied by researchers. Did you know that your level of stress stress at work can be reflected in the way you use the mouse? Follow the reading and understand!
Daily stress caused by tasks performed on the computer
It is common that during the development of a work on the computer, moods may change a little and this may be applied to the way the device is used.
With this in mind, some researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) realized this issue and decided to delve deeper into the topic.
So, they created an office-like environment in the laboratory, in which 90 selected people performed common activities in that space, such as data analysis and processing.
During the investigation, one group was assigned to work without any kind of discomfort, while the other was subjected to stressors, such as constant messages and participation in job interviews.
After the analysis process, it was realized that mouse use can reflect users’ stress levels.
Scientists found that stressed workers typed at a slower pace and took longer breaks than those who did not experience stress. In other words, participants who received more stressful stimuli also used the mouse less frequently than the others.
Furthermore, the fact that more stressed participants took longer breaks was associated by researchers with reduced motor skills as stress levels increased. This is because our brain responds negatively to these situations, reducing performance.
They warn of the importance of taking a deeper look at the impact of stress on the quality of life of Swiss workers. The group is looking at ways to identify these stress levels and then look for solutions.
By the end of 2023, new results will be released associating the use of keyboards and mice in the workplace with heart rate.
Finally, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) guarantees that all data collected is done responsibly and confidentially, aiming for reliable results that can truly contribute to the lives of workers.
