This is because the Minas Gerais Court decided to suspend the process that originally condemned the company to pay compensation of R$20 million to those affected by the security incident.
Now, these users will have to wait for a second instance decision to receive their compensation, which has been reduced to R$5,000.
The causes of the process
Meta’s initial conviction occurred in July this year, more specifically on the 25th, when judge José Maurício Cantarina Villela, from the 29th Civil Court of Belo Horizonte, agreed with an action proposed by the Collective Defense Institute.
The judge argued that the technology failed to provide its services, allowing cybercriminals to expose Brazilians’ data.

However, a new twist occurred when judge Geraldo David Camargo, also from the 29th Civil Court of the District of Belo Horizonte, accepted an embargo for declaration presented by Meta.
He granted a suspensive effect to the compensation, justifying that this measure aims to “avoid premature request for compliance with the sentence”. Thus, potential victims of leak Now they will have to wait for the case to become final, which marks the end of the possibilities for appeals.

In response to the decision, a Meta spokesperson highlighted that the company operates in accordance with Brazilian legislation, including legislation applicable to the integrity of its products and the protection of personal data.
The spokesperson also highlighted that the effects of the sentence were suspended until there is a subsequent decision from the 2nd instance of the Court of justice about the subject.
