The main purpose of Instagram is to allow you to share photos and videos with followers. However, you may encounter a situation where Instagram does not allow you to post on the platform. If you are suffering from the same thing, read on to fix Instagram not allowing you to post.
Instagram is the new Facebook these days. Social media addiction is real, and you may be wondering about the issue, as the app doesn’t let you share the last photo from a trip or a delicious dinner. We will share methods to prevent Instagram from allowing you to post from iPhone and Android.
1. Sign Out and Sign In Again
Log out of your current account on your phone and log back in with the same Instagram account credentials. Here’s how.
Stage 1: Open Instagram on your iPhone or Android device.
Step 2: Tap the account icon in the lower right corner.
Stage 3: Select the hamburger menu at the top and go to Settings.
Step 4: Scroll down and sign out of the account.
Sign in using the Instagram account login ID/Password. If you have enabled two-factor authentication for Instagram, it may also ask you to verify the code.
2. Check Mobile Data or Wi-Fi
Are you using Instagram on a sketchy internet connection? You should disable and enable mobile data or Wi-Fi and try again after some time. You can also enable and disable Airplane mode on your iPhone or Android device.
In short, make sure you’re dealing with a working internet connection when posting on Instagram.
3. Check Instagram Servers
Instagram is no stranger to the occasional outrage. The Facebook-owned company has faced a lot of outrage lately.
You can go to Downdetector and search for Instagram. If you witness heavy server drops (which you do), that’s a problem by Instagram.
Now you don’t have to do anything. Let Instagram solve the problem on its own and get the latest updates from the company on other social media platforms.
4. Reduce File Size
If you are dealing with very large RAW image files to upload to Instagram, the service may not allow you to post them.
Instagram compresses the media upload size but may crash when dealing with large image files. On iPhone or desktop, you need to reduce the photo file size.
We won’t go into details on how to do this, and you can read our dedicated post on how to reduce photo file size on iPhone and Mac.
5. Enable Background App Refresh (iPhone)
When uploading large videos as an Instagram post, you need to keep the app open on iPhone for a successful post. If you go back to the home screen, you may encounter Instagram not allowing you to post errors. For a smooth installation process, it is best to enable Background App Refresh from the Settings menu.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down to Instagram.
Stage 3: Enable Background App Refresh from the menu below.
6. Clear Instagram Cache (Android)
Instagram collects a cache in the background to remember your frequently visited accounts and other data. Overloading this kind of cache can cause Instagram to not allow you to post especially when storage is low on an Android phone.
Stage 1: Find Instagram from home screen or App Drawer.
Step 2: Long press the icon and open the App info menu.
Stage 3: Go to Storage and cache and select Clear cache from the menu below.
7. Enable Unlimited Data Usage for Instagram (Android)
This option is most useful when you use Instagram with Data Saver mode turned on. Data Saver mode on Android can limit data usage on Instagram. You need to give unlimited data usage to Instagram on Android. Here’s how.
Stage 1: Tap and hold the Instagram app icon and open the app info menu.
Step 2: Open the Mobile data & Wi-Fi menu and enable the Unlimited data usage toggle.
8. Update Instagram App
If Instagram doesn’t allow you to share posts, it could be due to an old build on your iPhone or Android. You need to open the App Store or Google Play Store and update Instagram to the latest version available.
9. Instagram Web Post
Instagram also has a functional web version. You can visit Instagram on the web, log in with account details and start posting photos and videos to your Instagram account.
Temporary Instagram Outage
One of the reasons for this may be the temporary interruption of Instagram services. But if this is not the case, there is no other alternative to the social platform on the web. Use the steps above and fix the problem right away.
