Samuel Ilnicki is a professional fighter in the regional circuit under the banner of the golden ticket fighting championship. The regional MMA scene is the only place you can expect to see pit fighting vibes in late ’90s MMA. While the first round was pretty balanced on both extremes, Rogers would have fallen victim to one of the most brutal KOs in recent MMA history. Wanting to land right-to-right, Rogers would fall for a very heavy telegraph shot from Ilnicky, which hooked directly into the jaws of the British.
The sheer effect of the connection apparently shut down all functions in Rogers’ body for a short time. He fell to the ground like a corpse, causing the referees to stop immediately in the position he was in when kicking. A class move, Ilnicky would pay homage to his fallen opponent by checking him in before continuing to celebrate his victory.
Speaking of his loss to MMA Junkie’s Ben Fowlkes, Rogers said:The last thing I saw was his leg coming towards me, ‘Well, you fucked up a lot, didn’t you?’ I remember thinking.” He would also say that it was surreal to watch his clip go viral on YouTube and MMA Junkie himself, as he frequently visited the website and watched himself as the highlight of the day.
