It looks like Nate Diaz’s tenure at the UFC is coming to an end. Diaz has publicly requested his release from his UFC contract on Twitter.
Like his older brother Nick Diaz, Nate likes to do things his own way. If Nate feels he’s not being treated well by the UFC or isn’t getting what he wants, that’s exactly what he’ll pull out after 15 years in the organization.
Nate is unhappy that the UFC hasn’t been able to give him a fight this year, the only one given to him Khamzat Chimaev, a fight he refused. Diaz tagged the UFC and its president, Dana White, said, “I want to request release from the UFC, Dana White, and Hunter. Sorry for asking online, but don’t give me a fight when I have something to do.”
The tweet came just days after he told his fans he had been trying to fight for 7 months. Since this is the last fight on his contract, it must have been particularly frustrating not being able to fight after constantly summoning fighters like Poirier and Usman. While Nate and the UFC are in talks to extend his contract, the Stockton player appears to have closed all of that.
Khamzat Chimaev immediately took to Twitter to rob Nate and wrote “Going to the UFC dance is not for you, you gave up.” Trying to tell Nate that he doesn’t belong in the UFC is pretty tough, as Nate has had over 20 fights in the UFC with 15 bonuses.

Nate Diaz considering switching promotions, could end up at Bellator
Nate Diaz hasn’t been shy about making plans to participate in other promotions publicly. The Stockton native has already tweeted about joining her longtime friend and training partner. Yancy Medeiros at Bellator.
Yancy is scheduled to be in her hometown of Hawaii for Bellator 279, and Nate has expressed interest in fighting on the same card as Yancy. While this particular wish may not come true given the UFC hasn’t publicly revealed anything about his contract, Nate could sign Bellator as soon as he enters the final fight of his contract and become a free agent soon.
