UFC fame Joel Romero had a nice meeting with Khabib Nurmagomedov When Dagestan is just starting to pop up in the UFC. “Eagle” helps the Cuban fighter reach Sazhid Sazhidov, his former wrestling rival in Dagestan.
Before fan-favorite incredible fighter Yoel Romero achieved massive success in the sport of mixed martial arts, he was a Cuban representative wrestler and also an Olympic silver medalist. One of the toughest matches in his wrestling career was against a wrestler from Makhachkala, Republic of Dagestan. Romero visited Dagestan to wrestle against Sazhid Sazhidov in a professional competition.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, an ardent fan of wrestling, claims to have watched this match and is a friend of Romero’s opponent. It turned out that the Cuban developed a good relationship with Sajid. Years later, Nurmagomedov and Romero met while fighting under the UFC banner.

Yoel Romero reveals when he first met Khabib Nurmagomedov
Former UFC championship contender Yoel Romero first met Khabib Nurmagomedov when he was 14 years old. During Romero’s visit to Dagestan during his wrestling days, he spent three months in the former lightweight champion’s city. Ahead of the UFC 248 pay-per-view event, Romero remembered when he met a young Khabib.
“I remember the first time I saw him, he was in the United States, he was in my first game. I finished the scale and he said, ‘Hey Yoel, do you remember me?’ ‘No, who are you?’ I said, ‘I am Khabib Nurmagomedov, I see you for the first time when you stay in Dagestan, it’s a big tournament and I saw you and I was only 14 years old.’” Romero described his meeting with “Eagle”.
The Cuban fighter has great admiration for the people of Dagestan and considers Khabib one of the greatest ever to practice the sport. He also said that the city of Makhachkala of the Republic of Dagestan is the best city in the world for wrestling.
