Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno will fight for Interim Flyweight Gold at UFC 277

Brandon Moreno and Kai Black France are targeted for a match at UFC 277 that will crown an interim champion in the absence of Deiveson Figueiredo. The two faced off before at UFC 245 where the Assassin doll culminated in a unanimous decision victory over Kiwi.

According to Ariel Helwani’s initial report, both fighters have verbally agreed to a match that will take place on July 30, but the watch-and-pay location has yet to be announced. The upper echelons of the flyweight division have been held hostage for over two years in a constant struggle between Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo in their highly exciting trilogy. However, everyone seems tired of the constant battles between the two, and the split will likely want to continue.

Meanwhile, Moreno has been involved in a number of sagas with Figueiredo, their first match ending in a majority draw, something Moreno would fix with a second-round submission victory over the Brazilian in their rematch and crown him with the Flyweight Championship. He went on to lose his trilogy fight along with the title, and many immediately saw a fourth race between the two as a possibility because of how close the fight was. That possibility was ruled out after Deiveson Figueiredo announced that he was injured during the fight and would be out of the field for a while.

A victory for Brandon Moreno in the rematch set for July would have guaranteed a fourth fight against Figueiredo, while a victory for Kai would have been the first time he touched UFC Gold. Both guys have gained a ton of experience and have mastered their craft since they last met, and the match will definitely add more fireworks to a stacked card.
