At UFC 284, Alexander Volkanovsky eventually he will get what he wants. The featherweight champion expressed his desire to move up in the weight classes and fight for the lightweight title. He cleared his division by beating former champions like Max Holloway and Jose Aldo multiple times.
Before UFC 280, he had made it clear that he was ready to fight either Islam Makhachev or Charles Oliveira. In fact, he was the reserve fighter for this fight before. Islam destroyed Charles. He even called the octagon by lightweight champion after dominant win. There, Volkanovski challenged Islam with the lightweight title and P4P #1 status at UFC 284.
And now, the UFC has made it official. This super fight will take place in the main event. UFC 284, originates from Volk’s homeland, Australia. Kart is already another surprising fight in the form of Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa, in what could be Costa’s last match under the UFC banner as he announces his intention to switch to boxing.
With more fights to be added to the card, UFC 284 is shaping up to be pretty card with two great fights already out there. Volkanovski, who continues to recover in anticipation of this struggle, will certainly be very happy with this announcement. Makhachev will be looking forward to getting that P4P #1 status too. Many fans wouldn’t mind if they saw Volkanovski face off against Makhachev in 2020, but now it’s a must see for any MMA fan in 2022. Both have impressive streaks of 12 and 11 respectively. However, which fighter has the better record entering UFC 284?
Islam Makhachev dominated most of his opponents. His most recent win came at UFC 280, where he easily defeated Charles Oliveira to take the UFC lightweight title. The 11-game winning streak includes the likes of Ragin’ Kajan Johnson, Drew Dober, Dan “The Hangman” Hooker and of course Charles “Do Bronxs” Oliveira.

On the other hand, featherweight champion Volkanovski cleared his league. He beat everyone and his most recent win was against Max Holloway and he did it. beat the former champion for the third time. He also had two wins against former champion Jose Aldo and one win over elite subjugation artist Brian Ortega.
As a result, on paper, Alexander the Great has a better resume than Makhachev. However, it is not so important that Makhachev finished all his rivalry dominantly. He also destroyed the first elite opponent he encountered. Suffice to say, this match cannot be judged on paper and fans will have to wait until UFC 284 to find out.
