Final shot to victory for tennis legend Rafael Nadal?
Many experts and commentators believe this may be the last time we see tennis legend Rafael Nadal in action. When the ATP 2022 season was about to begin, there were some serious doubts about the appropriateness of ‘sport’.King of Clay’. However, he came back and entered the Australian Open, eventually defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final by winning three sets in a row, despite losing two sets. He won the Mexican Open and the Indian Wells Open. However, shortly after his back-to-back victories, his form took a drastic decline as he was eliminated from the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.
However, he came back strong and won the French Open title, defeating World No. 1 Casper Ruud in the final. At Wimbledon, he had to withdraw from the semi-finals due to his poor physical fitness. He also later missed many tournaments and returned at the US Open, but was eliminated in the fourth round. He took part in the Paris Masters, but made a shocking debut at the hands of Tommy Paul in the second round of the competition.
However, there is no denying the fact that the Spaniard is currently struggling with his fitness. Also, history is not on his side. He has appeared in the ATP Finals tournament 17 times. However, he could not win the trophy. His best performance came in 2010 when he played the Championship match against his arch-rival and retired Swiss maestro Roger Federer.
That said, it will be pretty interesting to see if the 22-time Grand Slam champion will compete in the ATP round next year. So, this could be his last chance to win the ATP Finals trophy and he may decide to shut his boots off forever.
