World Number 2 Rafael Nadal had to face Francisco Cerundolo in the first round matchup. He rolled up his sleeves to win and it took four sets to reach the second round. He then faced Ricardas Berankis in the second round, which was a very comfortable and easy match for him. Rafa did not face any problems in the first set, but he pushed Berankis aside without any fear. The second set continued as Rafa took Berankis with ease. But Berankis boosted morale and played great in the third set, and eventually chose the comeback and made the set for himself. Nadal won’t let Berankis get in the way of his self-confidence and won the set and went to the next round with 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 wins.
Lorenzo Sonego faced Denis Kudla in the first round. He had to fight hard and it took him five sets to beat Kudla. He then took Hugo Gaston to a second round draw. In the first set, both players struggled to death, and Sonego finally did the set for himself. Sonego then never looked back and secured the second set and despite Gaston showing some signs of struggle he eventually won the third set and Sonego eventually won 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-4.
