Greek World No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas He thinks he has an apology from Russian World Number 8 Andrey Rublev. Almost two weeks ago, when the Russians beat the Greeks in the round-robin match of the Turin ATP finals, Tsitsipas celebrated Rublev’s victory “he won with the few cars he had” during the press conference. This statement was heavily trolled and criticized by tennis experts and fans.
Two weeks later, Tsitspas “come to his senses” by saying that he should explain the circumstances in which he said this, and he has an apology. In his words, “What I said against Rublev at that press conference was very unfair to him and was not true.”
The Greek went on to explain how he wanted to make Rublev more competitive before playing his next match against Casper Ruud. He wanted Rublev to beat Ruud in the next match (semi-final) and thus finish 3rd in the World ahead of the Norwegian. “I saw it with a different approach; I wanted him to get mad at his next match (against Casper Ruud) and try to play even better.
“I won’t explain why because I think it’s pretty clear the situation I would have faced in the next game if (I) played that opponent.” (Source: Arab News)
