Good friends and rivals now- Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal will be seen once again on the same side of the tennis court. Federer and Nadal will represent Team Europe at the 2022 Laver Cup in London. This has been predicted since the last few days and today Laver Cup has officially announced that ‘Fedal’ will be returning to London.
Nadal is currently at his peak following his historic Australian Open victory, while Federer is still in the recovery phase. And given their age, many did not expect them to sign up for the mega event. However, both Federer and Nadal decided to make time for the event.
Following the news, Federer expressed his excitement at playing alongside Nadal and revealed that during the last Laver Cup in Boston, Rafa texted him to play doubles in London. ‘Fedal’ added that he is ready for a comeback.
“Rafa is an incredible person and an inspiration to me and to countless others around the world. After the Laver Cup in Boston last year, he messaged me on social media and suggested we play doubles in London and I’m definitely ready for a Laver Cup ‘Fedal’ comeback! ” said Federer.
‘Opponents become Teammates!’ Federer-Nadal to play doubles once again
Nadal and Federer have been rivals for decades, and 2017 was the first and only time the two maestros played a double together. Their friendship, both on and off the pitch, has been loved by many and fans have been waiting for the duo to play together once again ever since. They won the only double match they played against Sam Querrey and Jack Sock in sets of three.
This may also be the last time Federer and Nadal have been seen on the same side of the pitch, given Federer’s age, making the 2022 Laver Cup even more special for them and the fans alike.
