World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev had another great year despite being absent from some of the major Grand Slam tournaments due to ATP’s grouping of Russian and Belarusian players. He started the year by leading Russia to the semifinals of the ATP Cup and also advanced to the finals of the Australian Open, losing to Rafael Nadal, who once again beat him in the semifinals of the Mexican Open.
