Raphael Nadal He is arguably one of the greatest players to have played this sport. He has won 22 grand slam titles and, despite being 36 years old, is one of the favorites of all the tournaments he has entered. Over the last two decades Nadal has had many memorable rivalries against some of the best outside of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, but not many have a positive H2H record against him.
Nikolay Davydenko, a former World No.3 from Russia, holds a 6-5 H2H record against Nadal. Interestingly, he won 6 out of 7 hard court meetings, and all of those meetings took place during Nadal’s prime. In an interview recently clay tennisDavydenko talked about his rivalry with Nadal and said that tennis is all about matches.
He said he had no problems with Nadal on hard courts, but always found it very difficult to beat James Black on hard courts. While he thought his play was adaptable to Nadal’s slow play, he struggled when the ball came in with fewer turns.
“In tennis, it’s about pairings – my game matched well with Nadal’s play on hard courts and I had no issues with him. On the other hand, I could never beat James Blake hard because he was hitting hard and he wanted to finish the points in two or three shots.” said.
He later said that for me matches against clay court experts on hard ground were the easiest for me because of the spin they created. “It was the easiest match for me on the hard court against the clay-court experts – the Spaniards and the Argentines – because they play long rallies and spin a lot. I had a hard time against the North Americans who hit hard and straight and wanted short points.” said.

Roger Federer was the toughest opponent of his career for Nikolay Davydenko
Davydenko added that Roger Federer is his toughest opponent. He thought his forehand shot was too fast with an accurate serve. He added that he failed to gain any control over the Swiss maestro. In 21 matches, Federer holds a 19-2 H2H record against him.
“I mean, Federer was my toughest opponent. Why? Why? I couldn’t gain any control against him because his forehand was extremely fast and his serve was very accurate.” said.
