Therefore, we Ukrainian players have asked the ATP, WTA and ITF to follow the IOC’s recommendations to accept Russian or Belarusian citizens only as neutral athletes, without displaying any national symbols, colours, flags or anthems.” Svitolina said in a statement.

Svitolina is currently playing this week at the Monterrey Open, where she is top-ranked. Drawn to play the Russian Anastasia Potapova in the first round but will most likely miss the match given his condition. In the statement, he added that he will not compete with any Russian or Belarusian tennis player, not only tomorrow, but until the organizations take the necessary decisions.

“Accordingly, I would like to announce that I will not play another game tomorrow in Monterrey or against Russian or Belarusian tennis players until our organizations take this necessary decision.” said.
