Daniil Medvedev: “I like having the best players in the world at the tournament”

Medvedev believes Djokovic should be allowed to play at the US Open, but it’s not in his hands. He wants to see the best players in the world compete against each other and therefore Djokovic.

“Yeah, absolutely. I can’t do anything. It’s the government that sets the rules, so I don’t know if it’s really going to change. If you ask me, if I were the decision maker, I would definitely want Novak to play. I like it when the tournament happens.” [has] best players in the world” said Medvedev.

Medvedev also talked about the iconic Djokovic-Nadal rivalry and wants the Serb to play in New York for it. Djokovic is just one major away from beating Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 major titles, and the US Open could have been the perfect opportunity to see who would come out on top.

“This rivalry against Rafa is very intense and very interesting.” said Medvedev. “So I would love to see him in New York. But if the government can’t be there for the rules, everybody will still try to do their best and win. [the] US Open.”
