Top 9 Concept Tips and Tricks for Students

Notion’s modular and customizable project management approach aims to redefine the productivity space. Many people use Notion to organize work schedules, life goals, manage projects, and more. Even students can use Notion to check grades, schedule exams, term schedules, create resumes, manage daily tasks, and more. If you’re a student and just getting started with Notion, read on to check out the best Notion tips and tricks.

You can create a database from scratch or choose the built-in templates to start with Notion. To save some time, we’ll mostly focus on templates and other tips for students to use Notion like a pro. Lets start.

Before we begin, GT strongly recommends that you check out and master the basic Notion commands. We will use some of them in the examples.

1. Use Colorful Background

A highlighter can be very helpful for marking important texts or excerpts from lecture notes. Notion lets you use a variety of backgrounds instead of using a standard highlighter with a yellow background.

Add color code to concept block

Place the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to highlight and use the ‘/’ command to search for different colored backgrounds.

2. Create a Weekly Agenda

Notion offers a built-in Weekly Agenda template to help you plan a busy week. This can be helpful for students to plan their schedules to manage assignment submissions and exam deadlines. Meanwhile, don’t forget to use the colored background trick to mark priority tasks and separate them from other tasks.

3. Use Reminders

Notion also advertises itself as a dedicated task management application. While Things 3 isn’t as feature-rich as competitors like Todoist, Microsoft Tasks, and more, you can use Notion’s Reminders function to get notifications for specific tasks.

For example, you can use the ‘/remind’ command in the Weekly Agenda template and get notified about a task at a specific date and time.

5. Create Custom Templates

With custom templates, you can easily duplicate content combinations you use frequently in Notion.

For example, you want to create the same to-do list at the beginning of each week. You can also create a custom finance monitor based on your uses and reuse it every month.

6. Explore Google Drive Integration

Google’s suite of productivity apps plays an important role for every student. The good news is that Notion works perfectly with some popular Google services like Google Drive and Docs.
