Integrating music videos can significantly transform Spotify music promotion, enhancing engagement and branding. By blending audio tracks with visual content, artists create immersive experiences, expanding their reach and solidifying their identity. These videos can attract diverse audiences, potentially leading to playlist features and extended platform interaction, signaling content popularity.
Visuals and audio represent the only two sensory elements that any online platform can provide in this day of age. Both play a crucial role in ensuring an enjoyable and engaging user experience. YouTube has been one to dominate the entertainment scene by ensuring these two elements are always performing at their best alongside its many other features. Creators would be able to fully express their creativity on the platform and upload all sorts of content including vlogs, podcasts, short films, music videos, and more.
Elements That Shapes The Online Experience: Visuals And Audio
Most music streaming platforms typically only focus on the listening and audio aspects. This is fine, as they all excel in it and differentiate by providing various sorts of listening experience features that cater to their targeted audiences. At most, they would include visual elements such as an interesting user interface or cover arts for tracks, albums, and playlists. Spotify has been one to explore this aspect further by integrating looping gifs when tracks are playing and fans absolutely love it!
However, without fully utilizing visual elements, a platform’s potential and capacity for engagement is quite frankly, only at half. As of today, the only major music streaming platforms that allow for music videos are YouTube Music and Apple Music. Even without it, Spotify has been able to dominate the music streaming industry for many years, leaving a gap of around 100 million users to its next competitor, Apple Music.
Music Streaming Industry Shift: Spotify’s Approach To Visuals
TikTok became a platform that really shook the whole online entertainment scene by allowing people to integrate songs into their short videos. It really placed the demand for video content into perspective and other social media platforms started placing more emphasis onto it such as Instagram. Earlier in 2023, Spotify had launched a TikTok like feed but it was designed to prioritize discoverability over content in itself.
Although no comment was given when Reuters posed the question to Spotify, Bloomberg’s report suggests that Spotify has been discussing its next big move with partners to integrate music videos onto their platform.
The Potential Of Music Videos: A Turning Point For Spotify
Despite Apple Music already having this feature for many years, the percentage of users specifically utilizing Apple Music for music videos are relatively low compared to other platforms such as YouTube or Vevo. Not only does Spotify have the largest music library, they are also a company that is capable of pulling off out-of-the box ideas that attract and create loyal users such as the addition of the Spotify Wrapped feature.
Imagine being at home and jamming to your favorite playlists on Spotify, be it curated through recommendations or made by your own efforts and liking. Now, add in an option for it to display its music videos. If there is any music streaming platform that is able to revolutionize music videos again, it would be Spotify.
With that, Spotify is looking at the potential of luring audiences from YouTube Music, Apple Music, and even TikTok which would not only strengthen their position as the biggest music streaming platform, but also to bring in new sources of income. This may just become a turning point for Spotify who has not been able to turn a profit since its establishment.
