OnePlus has just lifted the curtain on the OnePlus 8, a timid improvement over the OnePlus 7T to accompany its predecessor, the OnePlus 8 Pro. On the back, OnePlus abandons the camera arranged in a circle and opts for a more classic vertical triple sensor. The back is covered with the most effective matte glass. This hardware speed is highlighted by the fast and lightweight OxygenOS interface developed by OnePlus. In contrast, the Galaxy S20 struggles to compete with the SoC Exynos 990, powered by 12GB of RAM.
As our 3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme tests showed, for example, OnePlus’ smartphone offerings Higher theoretical performance than Galaxy S20. If the S20 hits 6900 points, the OnePlus 8 crosses the 7200 point threshold. It is quite simply one of the most powerful smartphones on the market. In use, however, the differences in speed are very small. However, we prefer to recommend the OnePlus 8 to gamers and the most greedy users.
⚡️ Which smartphone to choose for autonomy?
As we told you in our test, Galaxy S20 offers up to a day of battery life. To last a full day, you have to disable the 120 Hz display, which is a very energy-intensive option. Considering the integrated specs, the 4000 mAh battery is therefore a bit short. At this point, the OnePlus 8 is much more convincing. With its 4300mAh battery and OnePlus’ excellent software optimization, OnePlus 8 takes a little over two days. The icing on the cake: You don’t need to disable the 90Hz display for this!
It’s the same story on the fast charging side. Unsurprisingly, OnePlus has integrated the Warp Charge 30T into its flagship. This technology makes recovery possible 50% battery in just 22 minutes ! Still lagging behind in the field, Samsung accompanies its S20 with a 25W charger. Count 30 minutes of charge to save 30% battery. On the point of autonomy, OnePlus is therefore largely pushing Samsung away. On the other hand, the Galaxy S20 is compatible with wireless charging and reverse induction charging. This is not the case with the OnePlus 8. The manufacturer has chosen to reserve the Warp Charge 30 Wireless for the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Less complete than its bigger siblings, the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, the standard S20 still offers excellent performance in photography. Samsung relies on a triple photo sensor consisting of a 12-megapixel main sensor, a secondary 64-megapixel lens and a 12-megapixel module with a wide-angle lens. With this configuration, camera versatile. It allows you to take quality shots in most situations. We especially appreciated the very successful X3 optical zoom.

We were particularly disappointed by the lack of a telephoto lens and optical zoom. In fact, the camera only delivers on its promises in good light conditions. Also, unlike the phase-detection autofocus of the S20, the OnePlus 8’s autofocus is slow and temperate. From this perspective, the OnePlus 8 is well below its rival.

The Galaxy S20 is available in two versions on the French market. The 4G variant (with 8 RAM and 128GB storage) is priced at 909 Euros. The 5G version with 12GB of RAM and only 128GB of internal storage costs 100 euros more. Not surprisingly, the OnePlus 8 is several hundred euros cheaper. In addition, the compatibility of all models with the 5G network is a criterion to consider if you do not regularly replace your smartphone. On the other hand, it will be reminded that the prices of Samsung smartphones tend to fall faster than OnePlus flagships. Therefore, it is quite possible that in a few weeks the S20 will be available for a price close to the OnePlus 8.

Solution
The two smartphones in this comparison have radically different strengths and weaknesses. Each flagship is aimed at a different user type. The OnePlus 8 is disappointing below the competition with its camera if it succeeds thanks to its terrible performance, autonomy that goes beyond 2 days, and one of the most efficient fast charges on the market. On the face of it, the Galaxy S20 has an all-round camera and a slightly more convincing display. On the other hand, Slightly less stable than its S20 rival. Therefore, we will note its disappointing autonomy in terms of integrated technologies. As a result, we will recommend the S20 especially to photography enthusiasts.
