Performance: two beasts in its class

“No frills” It may be the slogan of the Poco brand, which belongs to Xiaomi. The Pocophone F1 is still the cheapest smartphone on the market in Europe equipped with Snapdragon 845 SoC. Combined with 6 or 8 RAM depending on the version, there is nothing to envy the OnePlus 6T in terms of the technical sheet.

But if the Pocophone F1 doesn’t disappoint in this area, it’s up against a major competitor, or even a champion in its category. The OnePlus 6T is a hit in the benchmarks, performing as good as a Mate 20 Pro and better than a Note 9 and of course its predecessor, the OnePlus 6. Design: more luxurious OnePlus 6T

While this was one of the main complaints we had in our Pocophone F1 test, its design seems to come from another time. There is no glass or metal in the program, the smartphone is made of polycarbonate, of course, an ultra-solid plastic, but it is not very pleasant to the touch and has a rather dubious aesthetic. Note that this isn’t really an issue anymore if you equip it with a protective shell. Simple but effective.

The OnePlus 6T has a much brighter design. Very elegant, pleasant to hold, special mention is made of the glass back. Here we feel the contrast between ambition and a much less high-oriented rival.

Continuing our 7 differences game, we can’t help but notice the size difference between the wide and thick notches on Xiaomi’s smartphone, and the much more subtle difference on the OnePlus 6T, which adopts the “drop” shape of water. ”. But the downside for the latter is the disappearance of the 3.5mm jack port found on the Pocophone. Its removal allowed a fingerprint sensor to be integrated under the screen of the OnePlus 6T, which is behind the F1. Finally, both devices are roughly similar in size, but with a slightly more pronounced thickness on the Pocophone F1.

More bezel-less than the Pocophone, the OnePlus 6T has a larger screen despite very similar dimensions. The 6T’s panel measures 6.41 inches, compared to 6.18 inches for the F1. This also provides a different responsive screen ratio: 18.7:9 on the Poco smartphone and 19.5:9 on the OP 6T.

First of all, the technology used is different. The OnePlus 6T has AMOLED, which allows you to “display” much deeper blacks and enjoy better viewing angles than the Pocophone and its IPS LCD panel. A difference that caught our attention, especially for multimedia. Finally, both phones offer Full HD+ definition, QHD is still used for the most expensive devices and not very useful for the majority of consumers.

Camera: OnePlus improves

Gradually, OnePlus manages to capture the photography. The OnePlus 6T proved that in our testing. The main 16MP sensor (f/1.7 with optics and software stabilization) along with a second 20MP sensor (f/1.7) works wonders when taking pictures, even if it doesn’t achieve the best photophones results when the light is cut off. . The 16MP front sensor (f/2.0 with software stabilization) does the job very well for selfies.

The Pocophone F1 struggles in this area. There is no doubt that Xiaomi is not (yet) even at the cutting edge of its high-end solutions (Mi Mix series). The main 12 MP sensor is the same one found on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. It is complemented by a second 5 megapixel sensor, which is responsible for managing depth of field especially for blur effects. F1 is doing very well under all conditions, but fails at the first challenge, especially for backlighting.

Autonomy of OnePlus 6T and Pocophone F1

The two smartphones each offer excellent autonomy, and it’s hard to decide between them here, although the Pocophone F1 has a larger 4000mAh battery, while the OnePlus 6T has a larger 3700mAh battery. Count 1 and a half days of heavy use and 2 days for the most moderate users. Frankly, they’re both very good at this. That is, neither of them has wireless charging.

And whoever says OnePlus says Dash Charge. The manufacturer currently has no equivalent in terms of fast charging on the market (with the exception of its parent company Oppo and Vooc). Two excellent value for money

The OnePlus 6T can be purchased for between 559 and 639 euros, depending on the model. The “flagship killer” offers great value for money as always with a device close to the best but much cheaper. The Pocophone F1 retails for 359 or 399 Euros depending on the version chosen, and it has ODRs from many brands, allowing the price to be reduced to 30 Euros. Even with its faults, it is very good value for money considering the technical data sheet and the performances displayed.

Solution

Of course, the OnePlus 6T is better overall than the Pocophone F1. But that’s not what we want from the latter, it’s much cheaper and develops a range below. For users who just want a smartphone that is very fluid, efficient, without slowdowns and with good autonomy, it is better to save 200 euros and return to the Pocophone F1. On the other hand, if design is important to you and you use the camera a lot, the OnePlus 6T is a better investment.
