About ten days ago, Google lifted the curtain on its last two phones. Nexus 5XThe third collaboration between Google and LG. However, the Korean brand’s latest flagship, the LG G4, has little in common with the Snapdragon 808 processor, except for the Snapdragon 808 processor. In the United States, the Google Phone is cheaper, at $379 in the event, and much more expensive on the European side. All in all, you’ll wonder if it’s more worthwhile to opt for the G4. Our answer is in our comparison.

Design: leather or plastic
We find a plastic design on one side or the other, not so much because there are two versions of the G4, one with a polycarbonate back and the other with a back. leather back of the most beautiful effect. Frankly, its more imposing and large format is likely to offend more than one user. But if we look at the dimensions, we quickly see that the difference between the two is not that big.
With its 5.5-inch screen, the LG G4 displays dimensions of 148.9 x 76.2 x 6.3 – 9.8mm versus 147 x 72.6mm x 7.9mm for the Nexus 5X. It is therefore wider and thicker in certain parts of its frame, but only slightly higher. Also, if you choose the leather version, you will really feel like you have a premium object in your hand.
Display: winner G4
On one side is the IPS LCD panel, a technology LG has mastered very well. The screen of the Nexus 5X offers Full HD 1080p resolution, ie 423 dpi resolution, on a 5.2-inch panel, while the LG G4, which we had the opportunity to test, offers a 5.5-inch panel Quad HD resolution and resolution. 538 pixels. Numbers aren’t everything, of course, and Full HD on a 5.2-inch screen is more than enough, but the difference between the two doesn’t stop there.
For its latest flagship, LG opted for a Quantum display that is expected to offer 25% higher brightness, 50% more intense contrast and 56% more accurate colors compared to the LG G3. Also, viewing angles are excellent. We haven’t been able to test the Nexus 5X’s display yet, but it’s hard to imagine it could do better than the G4’s.
Performance: Snapdragon 808 on both sides
Both smartphones are equipped with the same processor, the Snapdragon 808. A chip consisting of six cores and based on a 64 Bit instruction set. With the Snapdragon 810, the performance difference is minimal but the octa-core chip has no overheating issues. This is therefore a good point for both performance and autonomy.
But when it comes to the LG G4 it comes with 3GB of RAM, the Nexus 5X only offers 2GB of RAM at the counter. Obviously enough to run Android, but not necessarily the best option for multitasking. But on the other hand, Google Phone offers a lower definition and runs on the stock version of Android, two points that could play into its performance in favor.
Only the benchmarks will be able to tell us which of the two is the “biggest” and for now those of the Google Phone are not yet available, but on paper the G4 seems to show a slight advantage.
Camera: hard to decide between them
In one case as in the other LG offers hefty offers. The 16 Megapixel sensor of the LG G4 does its job very well. In addition, its f/1.8 aperture allows it to achieve excellent low-light results. The Nexus 5X for its part is equipped with a 12.3-megapixel photo sensor (the same as the Nexus 6P) and delivers excellent results thanks to its huge 1.55-micron photosite.
According to DxoMark, which tested this sensor on Huawei’s smartphone, only one point separates them. Therefore, the difference in quality between the two is minimal and the difference manifests itself in a few details. Thus, at this level, it can be said that they are almost on equal footing. Note that both are equipped with laser autofocus and dual LED flash.
On the front, the G4 and 5X are equipped with 8 and 5 megapixel sensors, respectively. Quality should therefore be available on both sides, with perhaps a slight advantage for the G4.
Autonomy: to be tested!
Yes, the LG G4 has a larger battery as it has a 3000mAh capacity. But on the other hand, it has a large 5.5 inch Quad HD display. Also, tests have proven that its autonomy is no better than the G3. Google Phone is limited to a 2700mAh battery only, but its 5.2 inch Full HD screen consumes less energy and above all, it works Android 6.0 Marshmallow and all its new products, including Project Doze.
Project Doze, presented during Google, makes it possible to optimize applications and, in particular, to reduce energy consumption. gaining autonomy. With the developer preview, the autonomy of the Nexus 5 (2013) has almost tripled, so we’re not immune to a good surprise about the 5X. Note that both phones are compatible with QuickCharge 2.0 fast charging, but be careful, the fast charger is not included with the G4.
Conclusion: who offers the best value for money?
If the Nexus 5X is offered at $379 in the US, it will cost 479 euros for the 16GB version and 529 euros for the 32GB version in Europe. LG G4 price drops significantly and you can easily find the plastic version at 435 euros and the leather version at 455 euros easily on sites like Amazon, or even outright cheaper on other sites. Knowing that it is more luxurious than the 5.2-inch Google Phone, it has quite the advantage in this respect.
