When we compare the images taken from the two videos, we can see that the images taken with the iPhone 8 Plus are more vivid, which causes saturation of some elements. When it comes to autofocus, the Galaxy Note 8 seems faster. The focus is changing very quickly. However, this speed offers somewhat jerky finishing. For its part, the iPhone 8 Plus and slower focus an almost cinematic result. Either way, the combination of optical and digital stabilization on the Note 8 makes camera movements smoother.
With twice the frame rate of the Note 8, iPhone 8 Plus enables ultra-smooth slow motion footage. For its part, the Note 8 is limited to 30fps in 4K, which is felt when comparing slow motion footage at maximum resolution. The iPhone also outperforms video footage captured using the front camera. Galaxy Note 8, on the other hand, is more efficient in terms of sound recordings.
Finally, keep in mind that the iPhone better manages the two extremes in terms of brightness. In a backlit state, the iPhone offers slight lens flare and very good contrast, while the Note 8’s lens flare is more pronounced and contrast is of lower quality. In low light, the iPhone wins hands down. Images may look more vibrant on the Note 8’s AMOLED display, but when viewed on a computer screen, light from external sources tends to leak out, while Note 8 videos are filled with noise in the shadowy parts. Images on the iPhone 8 Plus are darker but still noticeably cleaner.
