What does the cabinet tell us? Gartner ? First, the smartphone market continues to move forward as it grew 19% between Q1 2014 and Q1 2015 (281.6 million devices were sold in 2014 versus 336.1 million in 2015)
First observation, iOS keeps moving forward. Apple mobile devices have gained between January and March 2015 since the company sold 60.2 million iPhones. This represents a market share of 17.9%.
Good progress compared to the same quarter last year since the Cupertino company sold 43.1 million iPhones, or 15.3% market share. Well done Apple.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Android. If the firm increased its sales volume from 227.5 million to 265 million compared to last year, its market share decreased.
In the first quarter of 2015, Android’s market share drops below 80%. With 78.9%, it decreased by 2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year (80.8%).
Samsung is the undisputed leader
We cannot say that this is due to Galaxy S6 sales, as the smartphone has not yet been released, but Samsung largely dominated the controversy in the first quarter of 2015. While it has a market share of 24.2% with 81.1 million sales, it is far ahead of Apple with 60.2 million sales and 17.9% market share.
Despite this performance, Korea is worse off than last year in the same period. In the first quarter of 2014, the company sold 85.5 million smartphones and had a 30.4% market share.
For the rest, the ranking of manufacturers has not changed. Introducing a revolutionary smartphone yesterday, Lenovo is still in third place, followed closely by Huawei and LG.
