iOS 9: 8 new features already available on Android

For a few days, the new version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 9 available. We’ve already been able to address this on an iPad Air 2, and we’ve given you a testimonial of our experience.

After spending some more time with iOS 9, we spotted a few new features for regular iPhone or iPad users that are not for Android users. So here 8 new features of iOS 9 that already exist on Android.

Live Pictures

This was the feature that made a sound during the introduction of the iPhone 6S. Live Photos allows a short 1 or 2 second video, such as a GIF, to be displayed when a long press on a photo, thanks to 3D Touch technology. This feature surprised (already conquered?) journalists during Apple’s keynote.

But for those who follow high-tech news, you probably know that this feature is already available among competitors. The 2013 HTC One M7 already had such a feature thanks to HTC Zoé. Samsung had integrated this functionality into the Galaxy S5 and more recently the Galaxy S6 as well.

Smarter Siri

One of the innovations that iPhone or iPad users will definitely like is this: enhanced voice assistant Siri. Now it is smarter and can give information to the user without thinking.

For example, Siri will be able to recall train schedules without asking the user. Nothing new here for Android smartphone or tablet users, Google Assistant has been doing this since 2013.

Some iOS users were even able to take advantage of Google Assistant through the app available in the App Store. But now these features are native.

Based on the same recommendation principle, Apple improved the Spotlight functionality. Where previously it was only possible to search, Spotlight now displays useful information based on each one’s usage. Apple Maps: transit is coming

Apple talked about this during the iPhone 6S presentation. Apple Maps is still getting a little better. The map service of the Cupertino company gains new features to provide a quality service. We are still far from the quality of Google Maps, but the service is also younger.

Apple fixes a major shortcoming for its users in iOS 9: public transport. Now integrated with Apple Maps. Again, public transport has been integrated into Google Maps for a long time, more precisely, in 2011.

And again, iPhone and iPad users can take advantage of it, thanks to the Google Maps app available in the App Store. As with Google Assistant, the functionality is now natively integrated.

This is the great innovation of iOS 9 for iPad. As with the Surface Pro, you can now split the screen into two parts to use two apps at once. This innovation for iPad users, not for some Android users.

If this is a real innovation for users of Apple products, it is not so for those who already have the Galaxy S6. But do you know? this function It was already available on the Galaxy S3. Battery widget and power saving mode

Notes 2.0 and overhauled keyboard

Apple has finally updated the Notes app, which should be considered, along with other apps, as it appears from another time.

it’s possible now create lists, edit text in bold for example or to draw. You can even easily add photos that keep the app up to date. Because all these features have already been available in Samsung’s Note series for several years.

To accompany this beautiful application, Apple also overhauled its keyboard. You may not believe it, but before on an iPhone or iPad, pressing the Shift key to access capital letters did not show capital letters on the keyboard. With iOS 9, capital letters are finally here.

Also, the keyboard becomes more complete, as it shows, for example, interesting shortcuts for copying and pasting, or the layout of the text (bold, italic, underline). Many functions that already existed in Android in the past. Capital letters, for example, have existed since the beginning of Android.

What Android doesn’t have, on the other hand, is the possibility to move the cursor by touching the screen with two fingers and move it like with a trackpad. It looked pretty good.

Clearly, All these new features of iOS 9 are not available on all Android smartphones but from various manufacturers. Not all users can benefit from it at the same time.

That’s why Apple was able to take ideas from various brands to integrate it into its system and rework it so that they fit perfectly into the mobile operating system. Although these innovations are not really like that, there is no doubt that iPhone and iPad users will like it.
