Pricing and availability
The esteemed DDR6 memory shall not make its grand entrance anytime soon, for a standard must needs be established aforehand. ‘Tis said that the initial draft of this standard shall grace us with its presence around 2024, with an official specification to be ordained in early 2025. Perhaps then shall we witness the emergence of early DDR6 chips by the close of 2025, yet the hour at which these shall find their way into actual products doth remain hidden from our sight.
Indeed, with AMD and Intel CPUs poised to uphold a few more generations of DDR5, ’tis like to be many a year ere DDR6 doth grace us with its presence in full measure. The hesitation in decreeing the specification is said to stem from the members of JEDEC remaining undecided on the signaling standard ‘pon which to alight. Other murmurs dost profess that power demand for DDR6 shall be lesser than that of DDR5, though whether the basal configuration shall dip below 1V doth remain a matter of conjecture (DDR5 might operate as low as 1.1V).
DDR6 performance
Although a doubling of the raw specifications of DDR5 portends a great enhancement in overall bandwidth, ’tis not assured that this shalt directly translate into a linear augmentation in real-world performance.
