You have to go back to July 2018 to find the previous benchmark for web browsers on the Ventura Beat site. At that time, Google Chrome was the overall winner in this comparison. After 18 months, Ventura Beat decided to reshuffle the cards. This time around, there are not three but four browsers on the test bench: Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave.

In a year and a half, everything changed, as Ventura Beat editor Emil Protalinsky recounted. Google Chrome continued to consolidate its market dominance, Mozilla made privacy and user data protection a priority with Firefox 70, Microsoft Edge moved to Chromium, and Brave finally exited beta in November 2019.

Ventura Beat decided to test the specified scanners with 8 different tests to determine which one was better. To do this, the editors used a Microsoft Surface laptop with an Intel Core i5-7200U, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. To install a new Windows 10 Pro (64-bit), they created a 100GB partition, then later they downloaded various browsers and made all necessary updates via Windows Update.

As the Ventura Beat editors point out, these comparisons are not designed to disparage a particular browser. The four tested here perform solidly, and each shined in one of eight tests. As long as you’re using a regularly updated browser (all four pass this basic criterion), you shouldn’t have a problem to deal with. For VB, this comparison confirms that these four browsers are fully operational and that each in its own way can meet user expectations.
