If you don’t live under the rock, you must know that Samsung has raised the bar when it comes to the camera of its latest flagships. Yes, I’m talking about the Galaxy S20 and S20+. The phones are equipped with powerful camera hardware and a feature-packed camera app. The Galaxy S20 series is a photography enthusiast’s dream come true.
We’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy S20 since it arrived at our office a few days ago and have been amazed by the camera’s capabilities.
That’s why, in this post, we’ve compiled the best camera tips and tricks for the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20+ to help you get the most out of this phone.
It’s going to be a long post, let’s get started, shall we?
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

1. Master One Shot Mode
Single Take is probably one of the best features on the Galaxy S20 series smartphones. This nifty mod is a hybrid of Motion Photos, albeit with one important difference.
Activate the mode and hit the record button to capture Single Shots. Once done, swipe up and you will be able to see the result.
So, what is the trick of this mod?
Instead of recording just a 3-second clip, Single Take records videos between 3 and 10 seconds using all the lenses of your phone’s rear camera.
Once complete, the AI on the phone splits the video into neat photos and short video clips. So, from cool boomerangs to wide-angle shots to black and white photos, you get a lot in one shot. Yes, you read it right.
You can choose the best from the captured footage or keep them all – the choice is yours. And the best part is that this mod works perfectly on both cameras.
And the best part is that the phone automatically groups these photos thanks to the built-in AI. All you have to do is tap on the marked photos (marked with a small white circle) and you will be able to see all the related photos.
2. Capture Great Wide Shots
The wide-angle shooter makes many things look great. Just point your camera at a wide view, switch to wide-angle mode (0.5x zoom) and you’ll soon see the magic. But that’s not the only new thing possible on Galaxy S20 phones.
Now you can easily zoom in on your subjects.
When you tap the different modes, the phone will give you 3x, 5x, 10x etc. It will offer several new zoom options such as The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G goes one step further and lets you try the crazy Space Zoom mode.
All you have to do is be careful not to shake your hands too much while using the Space Zoom mode.
However, if you are not a fan of the new options, you can switch to the old compression and compression method. When you do this you will see a small counter at the edge of the screen. When this appears, swipe over it to get the shot you want.
3. Take 64MP (or 108MP) Photos Like a Boss
The S20 Ultra comes with a 108-megapixel camera, while the smaller models have a 64-megapixel sensor in the rear camera module. And there’s no doubt that these lenses capture impressive detail. However, in its locale the phone can only shoot 12 megapixels.
You can choose to use the 64-megapixel (or 108-megapixel) mode, but the option in question seems hidden.
Click the Aspect Ratio icon at the top to enable it and select 64MP from the list.
4. Group Selfie UI
The Galaxy S20 and S20+ do not have a wide-angle camera on the front. Fortunately, it makes up for it with a large selfie mode that keeps you and your friends from getting lost. The fun doesn’t end there with the Galaxy S20 series.
This time around, the company has put together a great Smart selfie angle that automatically switches the front camera to wide selfie mode when it detects two or more faces in the frames.
We’ve tried this feature a few times and can confidently say that the transition was smooth and the results looked great. So enable the feature from settings.
Simply tap the Settings cog and toggle the switch for it.
Cool Tip: Wide-angle selfies look best in landscape mode.
5. Super Steady Mode and 8K Recording
One of the best features of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series is the Super Steady mode. As the name suggests, it lets you shoot really steady videos.
All this is made possible by built-in anti-roll features (up to 60 degrees) and AI motion analysis. So, anti-roll and AI motion analysis work together when running or shooting video from a car. And the good news is that it doesn’t crop the edges.
We tried this mod and it’s great.
To activate it, simply tap the Hand-shaped icon at the top.
The only catch is that Super Steady mode is limited to 1080p only.
Apart from that, your new phone can record impressive 8K videos. If you have the opportunity to watch 8K videos, it only makes sense to enable it while recording.
To do this, go to Settings, under Videos tap Rear Video Size and select 16:9 (8K) from the list.
6. Create GIF in Style
Samsung phones have had the option to create GIFs for a while now. Keep pressing the shutter button for a while and you will have a beautiful GIF in no time.
The difference with the new S20 and S20+ is in the application. Now, instead of pressing the shutter button, simply swipe to the edge of the screen. Is not it beautiful?
Cool Tip: You can also switch to the normal ‘Take burst’ mode from the settings.
7. Create Your Custom Filter
Yes, you read it right! You can create a custom color filter on the Galaxy S20 series. So, if you like the color profile of a particular photo, you can base it on for your next photos.
To create a filter, click the Filters icon in the upper right corner and select My Filters from the list. Tap on the plus icon and select your preferred base image.
Once done, simply click on a new image and you will soon see the magic.
8. Try AR Doodles
AR Doodles are fun and gold for Instagram users, all thanks to cool and responsive doodles. Hidden under More > AR Zone > Doodles, they add a fun twist to photos and videos.
And the best part is that they work on both the rear camera and the front camera.
Great Tip: Use the AR measure tool to measure the length and width of objects such as tables.
9. Zoom Your Favorite Mods
The new camera UI is clean and uncluttered. Certain camera modes may appear missing from the main interface. If you want to bring your favorite mods like Food, Night, and Live Focus to the picture, fortunately, it’s possible.
Tap on More > Edit and drag and drop your favorite mods to the bottom strip. Once done, click on Save and that’s it. Yes, you can thank me later.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 packs large camera sensors and innovative camera techniques, including the handy Night mode. All you have to do is keep your hands steady to capture the perfect shot.
