Announced in 2015, the Facebook Lite app is a great alternative to the main Facebook app. With its size less than 2MB, you can use it independently of the standard application. I feel it is cleaner than the original implementation. Sure, it lacks some of the features found in the original Facebook app, but it won’t let you down. The Lite app is a toned down version of the main Facebook app. It is designed for low-end devices with limited RAM (less than 1GB) and storage (about 8GB) and places with a 2G rated internet connection. Whether you recently switched to Lite or have been using it for a while, the following features will help you.
Let’s take a look at the tips and tricks for using the Facebook Lite app in the best possible way.
1. Enable Dark Mode
Some people can’t live without a dark mode in their apps. And if you are one of them, Facebook Lite app will delight you with its dark mode.
Tap the three-bar icon in the upper-right corner of the Facebook Lite app to activate the dark mode. Scroll down in the menu and enable the toggle next to Dark mode. Turn off the toggle to disable dark mode.
2. Change App Font Size
If you compare Facebook and its Lite app, you’ll instantly notice some great differences. This is because the Lite app has a smaller font compared to the main Facebook app. More importantly, it allows you to change the font size of the application.
For that, tap on the three-bar icon at the top and go to Settings.
Tap on Font size under Account settings. Choose the font size you want.
3. View Recent Posts First
One annoying thing about Facebook and other social media apps is the strong implementation of showing top posts in chronological order instead of posts. Fortunately, you can change this behavior and view new posts in the app. Unlike the main Facebook app, recent posts in the Lite app will appear on the home screen instead of opening a new screen.
Tap the Lite app’s three-bar icon to view posts in the order they’re posted. Then tap on the Latest option. Restart the application to view the change.
4. Enable Data Saver
The Facebook Lite app is designed to reduce data usage. You can further reduce your data usage by enabling the built-in data protector. This will reduce the image quality and thus help you use less data.
Tap the three-bar icon to open the menu to enable data saving in Facebook Lite. Scroll down and go to Data Usage. Enable the toggle next to Data Saver.
5. Disable Auto Video Play
Another way to save your data is to disable autoplay of videos in Facebook Lite. For this, go to Settings from the three-bar icon. Scroll down and tap on Autoplay video under Media & contacts.
Turn off the switch next to Autoplay videos on Wi-Fi. This means you will have to tap the play button on the videos to watch the videos, and the videos will not play automatically when navigating the feed.
6. Use Messenger Inside Lite App
If your phone is running low on storage, you can uninstall the Facebook Messenger app here. You might be wondering how to use Messenger? With Facebook Lite, you don’t need a separate Messenger app. You can use it within the Lite application. Tap the Messenger icon at the top to go to your inbox.
7. Clear Search History
When you tap the search bar in the Facebook Lite app, your search history will be shown. Fortunately, you can easily remove any of the search terms from the list. For that, tap on Edit text next to Recents option. Tap Clear Searches to clear all history. Tap the cross next to the search entry to remove a specific item.
8. Disable Sound
When using the Lite app, you will notice that tapping some buttons will produce a sound effect. If that bothers you, disable it from settings.
For that go to Facebook Lite Settings and tap on Sound. Turn off the toggle for sounds.
9. Quickly Open Profile
Typically, if you want to see your Facebook profile, you have to tap the icon with three bars and then the View your profile button. Extra steps can be avoided in the Lite app. Here you have two options to quickly access your profile.
First, you’ll find the profile icon in the top left corner of the app. Second, tapping your profile picture icon next to ‘Write something here’ will take you to your profile.
