Last year, WhatsApp status stole its thunder by garnering more active users than Snapchat. Despite that, Facebook-owned WhatsApp still has a long way to go to level up with Instagram stories.
Although WhatsApp status is not as attractive as Instagram stories, you can also do a lot with them. Even some features are exclusive to WhatsApp status.
Whether you’re a WhatsApp status novice or an old-timer, here we’ll tell you how to take them to the next level with these 17 tips and tricks.
1. Add Links to Status
Unlike popular Instagram stories that only allow you to post links on business accounts with more than 10,000 followers, WhatsApp is more generous as anyone can post links on status. However, only type or text mode supports it.
WhatsApp comes with two types of status: text/text and camera. The former is text-based and does not support images, while the latter supports all types of media such as videos, images, and GIFs.
Let’s check how to add links in Type mode. Go to the WhatsApp Status tab and tap the pencil icon. Now type www.guidingtech.com into it. You can also change the font style and background color of the link. Then tap the Post icon to post to your status.

2. Change Font and Background Color
In the case of WhatsApp, the font mode has limited features where font and background color play an important role.
To use them, go to text mode in WhatsApp status and tap the color palette icon repeatedly to change the background color. Unfortunately, you cannot set a custom color and have to choose one of the offered. Similarly, tap the text icon repeatedly to change the font.

3. Format Text
You can customize the text by making it bold, italic, adding strikethrough, or changing the font to Monospace. If you are familiar with WhatsApp font formatting, they all work in font mode.
To do this, select the text when creating a state in write mode. Format the text according to your preference from the selection menu.

Alternatively, use these symbols without parentheses to format text:
- Bold: Enclose text in asterisks
- Italics: Enclose text with underscores (_)
- Strikethrough: Enclose text in tildes (~)
Monospace: Enclose text with three back ticks (“`)
4. Copy Text in Text Mode
For status created using write mode, WhatsApp allows you to copy text from status when it is live. To do this, follow these steps: Stage 1:

5. Pause Status
WhatsApp status works like a slideshow where each status automatically appears one after the other. Sometimes it becomes difficult to read the text or control the picture in the situation as you continue to move on to the next. You can pause to enjoy the situation in all its glory. To do this, tap and hold the status as many times as you want to pause, then lift your finger to move to the next one.
6. View Status from Next Person

7. Fast Forward Status
Similarly, tap on the right side of your phone to skip a status from the same person or fast forward the slideshow. This will stop playing the current state and you will be redirected to the next one. Tap on the left edge to return to the previous state.
8. Stop Seeing Status
There are many in our contacts that we do not care about the situation or as some say the story. Usually, however, they appear in the status slideshow and it’s awkward for both as they can see you’re viewing their status.

WhatsApp offers three privacy settings for status. The default is My Contacts where the status can be seen by all your WhatsApp contacts if you are in the Contacts list. Other than that, you can blacklist contacts or share status only with a select few to hide your status from them.
