Kik, one of the most loved messaging apps in the world, has a very refreshing approach. Especially for those who value their privacy. But why this? Well, this app doesn’t require your phone number to let you chat with your family and friends – just your email address.
Even if you have been using Kik for a while, you may still encounter new problems. For example, like getting stuck on the S. Why is this happening? What does that mean? Read this article to find out.
The Truth of Stuck in S
Where is this S and how do you get stuck?
When you send a message on Kik, the process is very similar to other messaging apps. Before the message is sent, you can see three dots on the screen. This means the app is trying to connect and send the message.
You will then see a checkmark and the letter S (as in Sent) and when the message is delivered, the letter S will be replaced by the letter D. When the person you messaged opens and reads the message, you will see this. check mark and letter R.
If your message is marked with an S for a while and doesn’t change to D and then to R, it could be for one of the following reasons.
1. The Sender is Offline
Your message can’t be delivered if the person you’re messaging isn’t connected to a Wi-Fi network or using their mobile data. The same is true if their device is turned off.
However, the sender receives your message as soon as it appears online. Even if they don’t open the app, they’ll be notified of a new message via Kik when they’re connected.
2. The Sender Has Blocked You
If you’re trying to message someone but your message isn’t delivered for hours, that user may have blocked you. That’s not always the reason, of course, so don’t jump to any conclusions, especially if the sender doesn’t use their phone as much as you do.
How do you block people on Kik? In a few simple steps:
- Open the chat with the person you want to block.
- Select Display Name at the top of your screen.
- Tap More.
- Select Block (person’s name).
- Tap on Block again to confirm.
Another way is Settings:
- Go to Settings and select Privacy.
- Tap the Blocked List and then the + sign.
- Tick the person you want to block.
- Tap on Block and you are done.
Whenever you want to unblock someone, repeat these steps and finally select Unblock.
3. The Sender Deleted the Application
This could be another reason – the person you’re trying to message has deleted the app and is no longer using it. To check if this is true, try to reach them through another app or call them. Maybe they are using a new device now and haven’t installed the Kik app yet.
They will get your message when they decide to use the app again, reinstall and log in.
4. Application Error
Noone is perfect. Apps are prone to temporary errors, especially when trying to update their services and provide a better experience for their customers. If you think your message was not delivered for a valid reason, try restarting your phone or even deleting and reinstalling the app. It can solve the potential error.
Also, check the App Store or Google Play Store for available updates before uninstalling Kik. Since it’s a pending update, the app may be misbehaving and leaving your messages stuck on S.
Or, possibly, the Kik server might be down as well. After all, servers need maintenance, so be patient. When finished, all messages will be sent and delivered.
5. Too Much Cache Causes Problems
If you are an Android user, this may worry you. The apps you use on your phone can accumulate a lot of cache data and cause performance issues. As a result, Kik messages may not be delivered.
You can quickly fix this by deleting the cache. The process depends on your smartphone model, but it always looks like this:
- Go to Settings and swipe to find Apps.
- When you open apps, find Kik and tap to see the details.
- To stop the app from running, tap the Force stop option and then select Storage.
- Tap on Clear Cache and Clear Data to remove unnecessary data from your phone and keep the app working properly.
Better Than R
When you send a message, you expect a reply. Getting stuck on the S can make you feel both impatient and nervous because you don’t know when the recipient will receive the message. But do not despair. As you can see, there could be several reasons behind the delay and they may have nothing to do with you.
Still better with “Read” and not responding, right? Though not responding when you think about it is also a message.
