WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11, here are the affected models

WhatsApp plans to stop supporting iPhone models running iOS 10 and iOS 11. The messaging platform will no longer work on devices running these two versions of Apple’s operating system, as the app has started asking users to download the latest update available to continue using the app.

WhatsApp’s support pages were also able to verify messages detected by users in the app. The app will now only support mobile devices running iOS 12 or later. For other operating systems, WhatsApp requires Android 4.1 or later and KaiOS 2.5.0.

Which iPhones will not be compatible with WhatsApp soon?

Such a change means Devices like the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C will no longer have access to WhatsApp in the coming months. The iPhone 5S users will be able to update the WhatsApp app without any hassle, as the smartphone is able to download the iOS 12 operating system.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop supporting the aforementioned iPhones from October 24, 2022, i.e. in 5 months.. As a reminder, WhatsApp will have abandoned iPhones running iOS 9 a year ago on November 1, 2021. If WhatsApp sticks to this schedule, we can expect the app to leave devices running iOS 12 by the end of 2023.

That’s why owners of old iPhones will be invited Buy a newer model if they still want to use the WhatsApp app. As a reminder, these older versions are often full of bugs, so apps stop supporting older operating systems for security reasons. The proliferation of supported versions also wastes a lot of time for developers, which reduces the frequency of updates.
