WhatsApp is likely trying to expand its user base by encouraging existing users to sign up their social circles. According to a new report from WABetaInfo, A new banner has appeared at the top of some users’ chat lists on iOS and Android.

This banner displays a message: ” Invite your friends to use WhatsApp » comes with a link that allows you to easily share the app. Another variation emphasizes WhatsApp’s compatibility with all devices. The strategy seems clear: Encourage existing WhatsApp users to add their contacts one by one. If every user manages to convince even one of their loved ones, WhatsApp can greatly increase its number of users, which stands at over 2 billion worldwide since 2020.

Certainly, WhatsApp is far from the only secure messaging option at the moment. Competitors like Signal have built-in encryption by default and have no connections to major tech companies. Telegram is also a great choice because it got some pretty interesting new features at the beginning of the year.

With so many options available, it’s worth shopping around and choosing an app that suits your privacy or metadata collection priorities. WhatsApp has made a notable splash lately by forcing some users to accept new rules that you may not like.
