The most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, is finally coming to smartwatches. While Meta has not released an app on Android smartwatches so far, WhatsApp now has its own app in the latest version of the operating system. A big improvement in Wear OS 3 was the ability to bring more third-party developers to the platform.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, some users noticed that after installing the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, 2.23.10.10 available on the Google Play Store, the app is listed as compatible with their smartwatches, specifically Wear OS. In other words, users of the latest WhatsApp beta can now install the app on their smartwatches.
Obviously, not all connected watches are compatible. you will need to use A watch running Wear OS 3, Google’s latest mobile operating system. Among them we find the Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5, Google Pixel Watch or Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition.
After opening the app on the watch, WhatsApp will ask on your phone if you are trying to connect to a device., an 8-digit code will be displayed on your watch. You will then need to enter this code on the phone and the watch will start charging your chats.
Note that the app is pretty basic in terms of functionality, but it gets the job done and saves time for those who still use their watch instead of their phone for basic tasks. Specifically, users can: Write a message or record a voice message using the watch’s microphone. The messaging in the smartwatch app always maintains end-to-end encryption as it uses the ability to connect multiple devices to your account.
