Meta is preparing to roll out a new update, currently being tested on beta version 2.24.14.14 for Android. This update aims to simplify the process of recording and sending video notes, making the function more accessible to users.
In the current stable version of WhatsApp, Users can record video notes by simply long-pressing the camera button in the chat interface. This method is not obvious to many users, which can limit the adoption of the feature. So the new update addresses this issue by introducing a “Video Note” mode separate from the existing Photo and Video options in the camera interface.

WhatsApp adds video notes to camera
This addition gives users a second, more intuitive way to create video notes. WhatsApp is expected to increase the visibility and usage of the feature by placing the option at the center of the camera interface. The new mode is designed to make recording easier for users by removing the need to hold down the camera button.
Video notes were introduced to WhatsApp about a year ago, It allows users to record circular frame videos of up to 60 seconds. These short video messages add a more personal touch to conversations than text or voice messages. The feature also includes a lock mode that allows users to switch between the front and rear cameras, pause recording, and preview the video before sending.
Alongside this camera mode update, WhatsApp is also working on other improvements to the video note experience. A recent beta update added a shortcut button for quick replies to video notes in chats. The platform is also testing the ability to transfer video notes, which would save users from having to re-record the same message for multiple conversations.
As with all beta features, the new video note mode is currently only available to a limited number of testers, but if it’s well-received, it’s expected to be available to all users in the near future.
