With more than 1.5 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp has become the primary means of communication in much of Asia, Latin America and Europe. While there are some concerns about privacy on the app, the general consensus has been so positive for the California-based organization that the future for the app looks even brighter.
That’s why, five years after its launch, Facebook has decided to make a massive investment of over $19 billion to buy this messaging app. Even Facebook’s own messaging app Messenger couldn’t compete with the worldwide popularity of WhatsApp.
Amazing Features for a Free App
Perhaps the most important reason for the popularity of WhatsApp is that it is completely free. Initially, the creators of WhatsApp thought they would charge their users low, annual subscription fees. But it never came to fruition. If it were, WhatsApp wouldn’t be as popular as it is now.
Even better, there are no ads on WhatsApp. This is a surprising feature for a free app that offers you so many possibilities.
As a freeware, WhatsApp also has great features. Besides being an extremely useful text messaging app, WhatsApp also gives you the ability to share images, videos, documents, audio recordings, contacts and locations. All this, in addition to features like voice and video calling, makes WhatsApp an all-in-one app we’ve never seen before.
What is a WhatsApp Group?
Besides individual contacts, you can also send messages to contact groups on WhatsApp. Anyone can create a group under any name and then share messages with other members of the group.
You can also have multiple groups on the platform. Whether it’s family, schoolmates, coworkers, neighborhood housewives, or the kids who go to the YMCA every week, you can have a group for just about anything!
It also works as a great feature for mobilization campaigns. Political parties in countries like India actively use WhatsApp to exchange messages with their followers. There are also downsides as someone can use the app to spread disinformation.
Previously, the number of members you could add to a WhatsApp group was limited to 100. However, in 2016, WhatsApp increased the number of members that can join a single group to 256 people.
You Can Cross the Limit
While WhatsApp allows 256 people to join a single chat group, there are ways to increase the number of members even more. In this article, we will tell you how you can do this.
Previously, you had to invite people individually to join a group. But then WhatsApp announced a feature where you only need to share an invite link for people to join.
Let’s say you are an admin of a group that currently has 256 members. If you try to add more members one by one, WhatsApp will notify you that this is not possible because you have reached the limit. However, if you keep inviting people through a link, they can still join.
alternative way
If you want to increase the number of people even more, there is a harder, more technical way. Only proceed with this process if you are quite technical. You will need to root your device before starting this process. There are loads of resources online that will show you how to root your smartphone, so a Google search shouldn’t be difficult.
Warning: Rooting your device can have unintended consequences, so understand the risks before doing so. Your warranty will be void and there may also be security risks.
After rooting your device, you will need to follow the steps described below.

Build Larger Groups
The two methods described in this post should allow you to create larger groups on WhatsApp. If you’re tech-savvy, you can opt for the second option, but if you’re a casual smartphone user, stick with the first.
Have you tried the method with invite links? Or maybe you’ve decided to take the technical approach? Anyway, how did it go, did you manage to get more than 256 people in your group?
