Like some other major social media platforms, Instagram enjoys setting trends by constantly introducing new features to its users. In this way, Instagram gives its users the opportunity to get the most out of the platform with innovative new features.
One of the most useful features that Instagram has introduced lately is the addition of a small banner (flag) at the bottom of each post. But what exactly does it do, and why is it a great feature to use? Here we will talk about the “little strip” feature that many Instagram users use every day. I will explain everything you need to know about this feature.
Instagram Bookmark Button
The ribbon below Instagram posts represents the option to save your favorite photos and create your own album on your profile.
You can use the small ribbon feature the same way you use bookmarks in a browser. On Instagram, you can organize your saved photos into “collections” similar to playlists on Spotify.
If you’ve used Pinterest before, you’ll love this feature. Pinterest lets you create your own pin collections just by saving them for later use. This is the exact concept of the Instagram bookmark feature.
The way it works is pretty simple: when you see a post you like, just tap the bookmark button; Add the photo to your favourites. You can do this as many times as you want and create a collection of your favorite photos.
Before this feature became available, users had to either take a screenshot or use a third-party app to save the image. This button eliminates the need for it and provides a simple and convenient way to keep all your favorite posts in one place within Instagram.
There is something to be said. Before you start your bookmarking spree, remember that users will be notified every time you save their post. This means it may not be a good idea to save a photo your ex shared months ago. That would be the Instagram equivalent of liking a Facebook post a few months after someone posts it.
Whether this will change is unclear at the moment. Given that there are people who can abuse this feature, notifications will likely stay here, so be sure to remember that.
Where Do Saved Instagram Posts Go?
After you bookmark your photo, you can find it on your profile. Look for the same ribbon style button and you’ll enter all your bookmarked posts.
When you enter the bookmarks album, you will see all the Instagram posts you have saved. You can then revisit them as many times as you want. The only way one of your saved photos will disappear is if the user who posted the photo removes it.
The main reason why the Instagram ribbon icon bookmark feature is an outstanding feature is because you save the best of the best photos from your Instagram feed. Most of us tend to double-tap a group of photos, but we may not want to see them all again. The bookmark feature allows you to create a place for all the posts that are worth revisiting.
Another useful feature is being able to organize posts you save. When you first enter the album, you will see all the posts you have saved. In the top right you will see the ‘Collections’ tab which allows you to sort the posts by any criteria. Like Spotify playlists, you can organize your Instagram Collections by any criteria or theme that makes sense to you.
This way, you have even more control over your saved posts. You can create as many albums as you want and sort the posts you have saved in them. To create a new Instagram collection, simply tap the ‘+’ button in the upper right corner.
Once you’ve done that, give the collection a name. Next, you will be asked to select the photos in your album and copy them to the collection. This doesn’t remove the photo from the ‘All’ tab, it just copies it to the collection.
Who Sees Your Bookmarked Posts?
If you want to keep your saved Instagram posts private, you’re in luck. Even though the album button is on your profile, only you can see it, like any post you save. When someone else visits your profile, they won’t be able to see the bookmark icon like you do, so no one else can access your saved photos.
This means your posts are safe and kept away from prying eyes. As long as no one else owns your Instagram login data, only you can see them.
How to Remove a Saved Post?
If you no longer want to have a post in a private album, there is an easy way to remove it. First, go to your flagged Instagram photos. Next, find the photo you want to remove. Open it and then tap the bookmark icon until it is transparent. This will remove the bookmark and it will no longer appear in your album or in a collection.
Now that you know what the little banner at the bottom of Instagram posts represents, go ahead and create an album of your favorite photos. Make sure you don’t overdo it with a single profile, though, and avoid spamming the user with a bunch of notifications.
Since its release, this feature has been loved by many users. If you haven’t used it before, there’s a good chance it will become a part of your daily Instagram routine. A very useful feature that allows you to remember all your favorite moments on Instagram.
As we said before, Instagram surprises its users quite often with its new features. Some of the new features are minor, while others are changing the way we use Instagram. Keep enjoying this useful feature until you see the next thing Instagram has in store for us.
