Hinge has many useful features that other dating apps don’t offer. For example, these “quick answers”, even if short, can reveal a lot about a person. But what is this Your Turn statement?
If you’ve seen it on your profile recently, you may be confused about what Your Turn means. Continue reading this article to find out why the notification keeps appearing and what to do about it.
Your Rank Statement
Sometimes you forget to reply to a message. That doesn’t mean you don’t want it! That’s why Hinge provides a reminder to let you know that you have a pending message that you haven’t replied to yet.
Your turn is a notification you’ll get when it’s your turn to send a message or like. You will see two different badges on the app icon on your phone’s home screen. The red one means you have new likes to check out, while the blue one reminds you to reply to a message.
Your turn notification doesn’t mean you have to respond. If you no longer want to chat with a user, or if you don’t want to return a like and pair with a user, you can unpair them or ignore the like.
Hinge introduced this feature to reduce “ghosting” – it disappeared without explanation and never responded to a message. Apparently, your Rank notification helps people connect more efficiently. You can often miss your chance to match someone because you don’t respond in a timely manner. After all, match requests don’t last forever. Even Hinge CEO confirmed that the number of “ghosts” decreased after adding this feature.
However, this little reminder doesn’t seem to help if your partner doesn’t like you and doesn’t want to respond to your message.
Can I Disable This Notification?
You can disable the notification by replying to the message or hiding the user. However, you can’t disable the feature entirely, so your Queue notifications will still pop up when it’s your turn to interact with someone.
What you can do is manage all notifications from Hinge. For example, if you want to pause them temporarily while in a meeting or don’t want to see them at all, follow these steps:
- Open Settings by tapping the icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Select Account to access profile settings.
- Find the push notifications option and turn the toggle off.
Keeping Your Inbox Organized
It seems that Hinge really puts a lot of effort into making this app an enjoyable experience for all users. Besides your queue reminder, one more option has been added to the app. It keeps your inbox organized and limits your chances of seeing someone’s ghost. We’re talking about hiding your matches from your inbox.
How Do You Hide Someone on a Hinge?
Hiding a match doesn’t mean you never want to contact them. It just means you don’t have time to do it now. It also helps you keep track of your posts and likes. Therefore, you are less likely to forget to respond to a potential match.
Note that a Hinge chat will be automatically hidden if you do not communicate with a user for more than 14 days. But if you don’t want to wait two weeks, here’s how:
- Open Hinge on your mobile device.
- Tap the Your Queue notification to see whose message you’re waiting for.
- Swipe left and select Hide.
Secret chat will now be at the bottom, under Secret Matches. You can show it when you are ready to chat with this user. When a chat is private, you will not receive messages from the secret match.
How to Match with Someone on the Hinge
Another option you might want to use is to not match with a Hinge user. If you discover that they are unsuitable or bothering you with messages, you can remove them from your matches. Your profile on Hinge will no longer be visible to them.
Be careful with this option though. Match a contact only if you are sure about it because removing contacts is permanent.
To unmatch a Hinge user, open their profile and do the following:
- Go to the upper right corner of the screen.
- Tap the three-dot icon to open a menu.
- In this menu you will see the Unmatched option, so select it to exclude the person from your matches.
Now it’s your turn!
If you’re getting a Hinge message from a loved one, you’ll definitely appreciate the presence of this feature. Originally designed with forgetful people in mind, the app now has 25% less “ghosting”. The result – we are rather forgetful even when chatting with someone we like.
If you don’t want to reply to a message, you can easily hide it or remove a match from your profile. Either way, the Your Turn notification means it’s your turn to react.
