What are Tinder Top Hits? What is this new feature available on Tinder? Do you want to use? These were all questions circulating in the office the other day, and it fell to me to answer.
So what are Tinder Top Hits? These are curated selections chosen by an algorithm that works best for you. Do you know how Netflix collects data about the content you watch and add to your list and offers recommendations based on this data? It’s pretty much the same thing but with people instead of TV shows.
This feature was tested in various countries last year and became available worldwide in Fall 2017.

Tinder uses filters such as job type, hobbies, interests or education to select a few profiles from the audience. It adds data from your scrolling behavior to create an (hopefully) accurate picture of what you’re looking for. The idea is to pick a few profiles from the pack to overcome our growing fatigue for scrolling and show you.
Tinder then categorizes all this data with tags like ‘Creative’ or ‘Adventurous’. So if you like open mic nights or write poetry, you’ll likely see a lot of Creative types. Or if you’re a mountain biker or surfer, you’re likely to see the Adventurer.
Tinder collects Top Picks as follows:

After all, sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to stay on top of your scrolling game. We’ll show you your choices daily – and believe us, we know how to choose them.
This means that any data you add to your own tinder profile will be similarly categorized. Using the criteria above, photographers would be Creative, mountain tour guides would be Adventurers, etc.
You’ll see four to ten Top Picks a day, and they change every 24 hours. If you can’t get enough, you can buy more Top Picks in packs of 10, 20 or 30.
How to use Tinder Top Picks?
To access Tinder Top Picks, you must be a Tinder Gold subscriber. It is currently only available to paying users, so you must be in the club to use it.
- Select your Discovery page from within Tinder.
- Select the little diamond at the top of the screen.
- Scroll and swipe through your Top Picks, Super Like or whatever you see fit.
Selection and initial actions will be the same as a regular Tinder pick. Depending on how much you like the person, you can interact using a variety of methods at your disposal.
How to work with Tinder Top Picks
The other side of Tinder Top Picks is how it will use your own profile to categorize you. If you haven’t revisited your profile in a while, now may be the time to do so, considering how you’ll appear on Top Picks.
Before rewriting your profile, consider which category you want to appear in or what most accurately describes you. If you want to be listed as a musician, you will need to mention music or instruments in your profile. If you want to be an Adventurer, you will need to mention adventure sports or entertainment on your profile. If you want to apply for Tinder Top Picks, you’ll have to put in more effort than ever before!
The same picture rules should apply to Top Pictures as they do on regular Tinder. Make your primary image good. Alone, you’re wearing something colorful, stylish, with a head-and-shoulder hit. Where you go from there is up to you. A mood shot, action or situational shot or portrait. Whichever you choose, make sure it reflects you as a person and you won’t be doing too much wrong.
Tinder Top Picks will either appeal or not. Some people will love the time- or scroll-saving aspect, while others don’t want algorithms to rule their lives. You also need to go the extra mile to make sure your Tinder profile accurately describes you and correctly categorizes you for when you appear on other people’s Top Picks.
