The wait is over for all European Internet users who have been waiting to be able to test Threads, Meta’s new social network (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp). Mark Zuckerberg’s group revealed the details of the issue a few days ago and announced the release date and time through a secret teaser. So today at exactly 12 o’clock you can explore Threads completely freely.
It will be a long time before social networking comes to our side of the world. While the latter has been available in the rest of the world since July, the Old Continent had no right to join the party, Meta had to adapt to the specific legislation of the European Union on digital matters. It’s over now and you’re just a few hours away from embarking on this new adventure.
How to create an account on Threads?
Your account may already be on Threads. If the social network wasn’t available in stores in Europe when it launched, there were actually indirect ways to get the app. On Android, you just downloaded the APK, while on iOS you had to log in with an American account. If you used these two techniques and already have Threads installed on your smartphone, you do not need to do anything. You will be able to browse the platform without any limitations.
If this is not the case, you will need to download the app in a more traditional way via the Play Store or App Store. Note that a web version of Threads is also available if you don’t want to have it on your smartphone. After completing the process, you will need to log in with your Instagram account. Unfortunately, despite Meta’s progress in separating the two apps, it is not yet possible to create a Threads account without an Instagram account.
All you have to do is configure your profile, decide to make it public or private, and follow the people and brands you want. For the rest, only time will tell if Threads can bury Twitter. If alternatives already exist, primarily Bluesky and Mastodon, none have achieved the success of Threads, which already has 100 million users.
