When it launched, Threads won everything in its path, surpassing 100 million users in just a few days. But a few days later, the social network had lost half of its daily users. Why ? There are several possible reasons for this phenomenon, but it is clear that the lack of functionality does not help the platform to maintain the interest of Internet users.
In fact, if the Twitter clone does what we expect perfectly, we will have to wait a long time to create a subscription-only release, while the promised desktop version is not yet available. But what has certainly turned off many Internet users is undoubtedly the very tenuous connection between his Threads account and his Instagram account.
Threads will let you delete your account without touching Instagram
It’s a link that users who are least interested in the platform would be fine without, as it prevents you from deleting your Thread account without also deleting your Instagram account. The teams responsible for the project very quickly assured us that it would be possible to eliminate one without eliminating the other. Meta’s head of privacy protection, Michel Protti, reiterated his point in an interview with TechCrunch.
“Technically, it was extremely difficult to allow deletion of a separate Threads account without deleting your public Instagram account from the start.” explains the latter. “Therefore, we have ensured that the user can always exercise their deletion rights by deactivating the account, putting it in private mode, or deleting individual threads to hide all content.”
Michel Protti even had the courage to set a deadline: According to him, functionality should arrive by December. A relatively wide firing window that will not inspire confidence in users who will undoubtedly have to wait a certain amount of time to see the option arrive. Finally, for us the app should still be available by then.
